83 to support English language learners from kindergarten through grade 12. The successful candidate will have ESL expertise, BC teaching certification, and experience designing literacy supports; collaboration with classroom

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Arts or Education with ESL major and BC teaching certificate.
• Training in ESL methodology and related post-secondary coursework.
• Understanding of ESL/ELL guidelines and literacy program design.
• Knowledge of second language acquisition, applied linguistics and assessment.

Responsibilities

• Travel between schools in SD83 to support ELL students K–12.
• Plan and deliver ESL instruction and literacy supports with classroom teachers.
• Collaborate with ELL team, Learning Resource Teacher and principal.
• Assist in designing literacy projects aligned with Ministry guidelines.

Job description

1.0 FTE English Language Learners Teacher

This is a temporary assignment effective immediately to June 30, 2027.

This position is an Itinerant position and will require travel between schools in School District No. 83

The successful applicant must have extensive experience in English as a Second Language at the grades K – 12 level and be deemed to meet the qualification criteria as established by Ministry of Education guidelines. The schedule and locations will be in consultation with the District Principal of Student Services.

Preference will be given to candidates who fully meet qualification standards while consideration may be given to candidates who are currently enrolled in an ESL specialist teacher program.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor of Arts or Education (with a major in ESL);
• Valid BC teaching certificate and current membership in the Teacher Regulation Branch;
• Training in ESL methodology;
• Successful completion of post-secondary academic coursework in the following areas (TEFL/TESL are considered minimal qualifications):
• Second Language Methodology and Applied Linguistics;
• First and second language acquisition/learning;
• Assessment/testing theory and practice.

Teachers applying for this position should possess the following attributes:

• Successful experience with supporting, planning and delivery of programs and services for English language learners;
• Awareness and understanding of the 1701 Ministry of Education ELL/ESD guidelines;
• Experience designing and implementing literacy projects and events;
• Experience adapting instruction to meet the diverse language needs of students;
• Broad knowledge and experience with the K-12 curriculum;
• willingness to work closely and collaborate with classroom teacher, CEA, Learning Resource Teacher and the Principal
• willingness to collaborate with the ELL team.
