This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Staff Software Engineer based remotely in Brazil.

We are looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer to drive technical strategy and execution across high-impact engineering initiatives. In this role, you will design and build highly scalable, resilient distributed systems that support complex, high-volume product experiences. You will play a key part in advancing AI-powered capabilities, including low-latency conversational journeys, microservices orchestration, and real-time machine learning processing. Beyond delivering technical solutions, you will influence architectural decisions, strengthen engineering practices, and help teams navigate complex trade-offs. Working across multiple engineering teams, you will use your technical judgment and leadership to solve challenging problems and shape long-term technology direction. This is a remote-first opportunity open to professionals anywhere in Brazil, with the flexibility to work from other countries for up to 90 days per year.

Accountabilities

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical design and delivery of high-volume, high-concurrency, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Drive architectural decisions that address scalability, resilience, performance, distributed data consistency, and system optimization.
• Design and evolve systems capable of supporting data-intensive applications and large-scale AI and machine learning capabilities.
• Contribute to the development of low-latency conversational experiences, complex microservices orchestration, and real-time ML processing.
• Evaluate technical alternatives and clearly articulate engineering trade-offs, balancing simplicity, flexibility, delivery speed, reliability, and build-versus-buy decisions.
• Identify and remove technical and organizational barriers that affect collaboration and engineering execution.
• Lead complex technical discussions and facilitate constructive conversations around architectural and structural challenges.
• Promote engineering standards and practices that support maintainability, reliability, and long-term scalability.
• Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional stakeholders to align technical decisions with broader product and business objectives.
• Foster an inclusive engineering culture built on knowledge sharing, accountability, and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to the evolution of engineering practices through experimentation, adaptability, and the effective use of modern development tools, including AI-assisted technologies.

Requirements

• 10+ years of experience in software development.
• Proven experience leading the delivery of high-volume, high-concurrency, mission-critical distributed systems.
• Deep understanding of modern software architecture, distributed data consistency, fault tolerance, and system performance optimization.
• Strong knowledge of data-intensive applications and architectures designed to support machine learning and AI features at scale.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze and communicate technical trade-offs clearly and pragmatically.
• Experience influencing engineering decisions and driving collaboration across teams.
• Ability to address complex structural challenges, facilitate difficult technical discussions, and foster an inclusive engineering environment.
• Fluency in Portuguese and excellent English communication skills; both are mandatory.
• Strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and an engineering mindset.

The Following Experience Would Be Considered An Advantage

• Experience designing architectures that integrate large language models (LLMs), multi-agent AI systems, or complex data pipelines.
• Strong background in FinOps and cost optimization for high-throughput cloud environments.
• Experience migrating legacy monolithic systems toward decoupled, event-driven architectures.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms and modern technologies such as Java, Kotlin, Node.js, Go, Python, React, and AWS. Mastery of the entire technology stack is not required.
