  • Degree in engineering, law, finance, business, or equivalent.
  • 5-8 years of experience in regulatory affairs and regulatory reporting in energy or commodities markets.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills; ability to translate complex regulatory issues for varied audiences.
  • Advanced English and strong interpersonal skills; able to work across Brazil and Chicago.
  • Background in crude, fuels and biofuels regulatory and compliance matters; experience with industry forums.
  • Proven track record building relationships with policymakers, regulators and trade associations.

Job Summary

This role provides dedicated regulatory affairs and regulatory reporting support for bp’s Refined Products Trading activities in Brazil. The position is responsible for monitoring and assessing new and changing laws, rules, and reporting requirements affecting refined products, crude oil, ethanol, diesel, biodiesel, and related trading activity; communicating impacts to the business; and helping ensure bp maintains compliance and its license to operate. The role also coordinates internal implementation of new regulatory obligations, supports public policy engagement and consultation responses, manages interfaces with regulators and trade associations, and works closely with teams in Brazil and the United States on both domestic and cross-border reporting requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor new and amended laws, regulations, and reporting requirements affecting refined products, crude oil, ethanol, diesel, biodiesel, and other liquid commercial activities in Brazil.
  • Assess regulatory and reporting impacts, identify risks and opportunities, and communicate implications clearly to Commercial, Legal, Ethics & Compliance, Operations, Regulatory Reporting, and other relevant teams in Brazil and the United States.
  • Define and coordinate reporting requirements and implementation plans for new regulations, changing regulations, and new business activities that create regulatory obligations.
  • Prepare, coordinate, and monitor the submission of required reports to regulatory agencies, acting on the continuous improvement of workflows.
  • Support the development of policy positions, consultation responses, and outreach plans in partnership with Communications & External Affairs and other internal stakeholders.
  • Represent bp through trade associations and other external forums such as ABD/IBP to help influence regulatory developments and maintain awareness of policy and market changes.
  • Collaborate across Supply, Trading & Shipping, Customers & Products, and other business groups to share market knowledge and strengthen interfaces between commercial and regulatory teams.
  • Act as subject matter expert on Brazilian regulations, including liquid fuel distribution, foreign trade operation, biofuels production.
  • Support complex cross-border compliance and reporting obligations arising from exports out of Brazil and imports into other jurisdictions, including programs such as the U.S. Renewable Fuel Standard and California Low Carbon Fuel Standard where applicable.
Qualifications
  • Degree in engineering, law, finance, business, or equivalent.
  • Seasoned professional with (5-8 years) of experience in regulatory affairs, regulatory reporting in energy or commodities markets.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills, with ability to translate complex regulatory issues into understandable terms for a variety of audiences.
  • Advanced English skills and strong interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively across teams in Brazil and Chicago.
  • Strong background in crude, fuels and biofuels regulatory and compliance matters and relevant industry forums.
  • Track record of developing relationships with policymakers, industry regulators and trade associations.
Desirable criteria
  • Ability to identify and manage the policy and regulatory landscape within which the business is operating, read, understand, and interpret complex legislative and regulatory information.
  • Strong presentation skills and knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Power BI.
