About the role

We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to prepare the structural design, calculation, and engineering of water treatment plant (WTP) steel structures — including additions and alterations to existing structures — as well as the design and engineering of WTP equipment layout and piping systems. The role also covers on-site execution, supervising the installation of equipment, skid, piping, and steel structures through to commissioning.

Key responsibilities

Design & Engineering

• Design and perform structural calculations for steel structures supporting WTP equipment, platforms, skids, pipe racks, and tanks.

• Assess existing structures and design additions/alterations (retrofits, extensions, reinforcements) while verifying compatibility with existing loads and codes.

• Develop general arrangement (GA) drawings for equipment layout within the WTP.

• Design and engineer piping layout, including routing, supports, and stress considerations.

• Prepare structural and piping calculation reports, design basis documents, and technical specifications.

• Coordinate with process, civil, and electrical engineers to ensure integrated design.

• Review and check fabrication/shop drawings.

Site Execution

• Supervise and coordinate on-site installation of equipment, skid, piping, and steel structures to ensure compliance with approved drawings and specifications.

• Review mechanical team/contractor work methods, installation sequence, and quality of workmanship on site.

• Conduct site inspections, alignment checks, and pipe/equipment fit-up verification prior to final installation.

• Coordinate with mechanical team/contractors, fabricators, and site supervisors to resolve technical issues during execution.

• Support commissioning activities, including witnessing equipment installation and piping pressure tests.

• Prepare as-built drawings and site inspection/progress reports.

• Ensure work complies with HSE requirements and site safety procedures.

About you

• Bachelor's degree in Civil/Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or related field).

• Minimum 6 years' experience in structural steel design, piping engineering, and site supervision, preferably in water/wastewater treatment or industrial plant projects.

• Strong understanding of steel connection design, foundation loading, and retrofit/strengthening techniques.

• Familiarity with WTP process equipment (clarifiers, filters, pumps, chemical dosing systems, etc.) and their layout requirements.

• Experience supervising installation of steel structures, mechanical equipment, skid, and piping systems on site.

• Knowledge of construction QA/QC procedures and site safety (HSE) requirements.

• Willing to travel/relocate to site for extended periods, including working within live/operating plants (brownfield conditions).

• Good communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
