We are looking for a technically strong and collaborative geophysicist who combines independent seismic interpretation skills with a practical understanding of the broader subsurface workflow.
The ideal candidate is someone who takes ownership of their work, is comfortable working with complex and sometimes imperfect datasets, can communicate technical conclusions clearly, and is willing to contribute across the exploration and development lifecycle.
This is an opportunity to play an important role in strengthening in-country geophysical capability in Brazil, while working as part of an international technical team.
About the Role
We are seeking a Geophysicist to join our technical team in Brazil and provide hands-on geophysical support to our exploration, appraisal and development activities.
The ideal candidate will have 3–5 years of oil and gas industry experience, with a strong background in onshore seismic interpretation and a proven ability to work independently with 2D and 3D seismic datasets and integrate geophysical interpretation with geological and well data.
Key Responsibilities
Seismic Interpretation & Subsurface Integration
- Interpret 2D and 3D seismic data to identify and evaluate exploration, appraisal and development opportunities.
- Develop seismic interpretations, including fault frameworks, horizons, structural maps, time/depth surfaces and seismic attributes.
- Evaluate structural styles, fault geometries, closures, compartmentalization and potential hydrocarbon migration pathways.
- Integrate seismic interpretation with well logs, checkshots/VSPs, formation tops, petrophysics and geological interpretations.
- Integrate legacy seismic datasets with newly acquired or reprocessed data.
- Support well planning and field development activities through structural and seismic interpretation.
- Assess seismic data quality, resolution and interpretive uncertainty, and communicate implications for subsurface decisions.
- Provide geophysical input to exploration and development decisions, including structural interpretation, volumetric assessment and subsurface risk evaluation.
- Identify and evaluate infill drilling and field development opportunities.
Seismic Acquisition & Processing
- Provide geophysical input into the planning and design of onshore seismic acquisition programs.
- Review acquisition parameters, survey design and expected data quality.
- Participate in seismic reprocessing projects and evaluate alternative processing workflows.
- Assess the impact of acquisition and processing decisions on seismic resolution, imaging quality and interpretability.
- Work with seismic contractors and technical service providers as required.
Seismic Data & Technical Support
- Monitor the availability of relevant seismic datasets through the ANP database and support data requests and management.
- Support the preparation and submission of applicable seismic notifications, reports and reprocessed seismic datasets.
- Maintain high-quality seismic and interpretation databases.
- Ensure interpretations, maps and technical documentation are appropriately documented and version controlled.
Technical Skills & Software
The successful candidate is expected to have strong practical experience with Kingdom Suite and be comfortable working independently within the software environment, from seismic data loading and QC through interpretation, mapping and preparation of technical deliverables.
Experience with the following is expected or desirable:
- SEG-Y and common seismic data formats
- Well-log and subsurface datasets
- Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint
- GIS and subsurface mapping applications
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geophysics, Geoscience or a related discipline.
- 3 to 5 years of relevant oil and gas industry experience.
- Strong hands-on experience interpreting 2D and 3D seismic data.
- Demonstrated experience using Kingdom Suite or comparable seismic interpretation software.
- Experience with ANP seismic data and related regulatory or data management processes.
- Ability to work independently and effectively within a multidisciplinary subsurface team.
- Professional fluency in Portuguese and English, including the ability to participate in technical discussions and communicate effectively with international colleagues.
