Job summary

Dijital Team Pty is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee month-end financial reporting and quality assurance for Australian business clients. The role focuses on financial review, identifying discrepancies and providing accurate reporting, rather than pure transactional accounting.

Work closely with the CFO and a Sri Lanka-based development team to review management reports and help automate finance workflows, ensuring integrity across client portfolios and scalable processes.

Qualifications

• Chartered Accountant qualification or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.
• Hands-on Xero experience for reporting.
• Experience reviewing client financial records across portfolios.
• Understanding of month-end close, reconciliations and accruals.
• Independence and sound financial judgement.
• Excellent written English for client commentary.
• Experience in outsourced finance or professional services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Review and validate month-end close across Australian client accounts.

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Financial Controller to oversee month-end financial reporting and quality assurance across a portfolio of Australian business clients.

This is a review-focused role where you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of financial information. Working closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a Sri Lanka-based development team, you will provide financial oversight, review management reports, and contribute to the continuous improvement of automated finance processes.

Rather than focusing on transactional accounting or bookkeeping, you will act as a key financial reviewer, identifying discrepancies, validating financial results, and ensuring clients receive accurate, insightful reporting.

You will be working with an Australian financial services and technology-driven organisation that delivers outsourced finance operations to businesses across the construction, trades, professional services, and broader services sectors.

The organisation combines accounting expertise with technology-enabled financial processes to provide comprehensive financial management services, including accounts payable, reconciliations, month-end reporting, and financial oversight.

Operating on a proprietary platform built using Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365, the business places a strong emphasis on automation, accuracy, and operational efficiency.

You will collaborate with finance professionals in Australia and a technology development team in Sri Lanka, contributing to an environment where financial expertise and software innovation work closely together.

Ideal Profile

Essential Qualifications & Experience

• Professionally qualified Chartered Accountant (CA Sri Lanka, CA ANZ, or equivalent).

• Strong working knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards.

• Hands-on experience using Xero for accounting and financial reporting.

• Proven experience reviewing financial records and reports across multiple client accounts or portfolios.

• Strong understanding of month-end close processes, including reconciliations, journals, accruals, and balance sheet reviews.

• Ability to work independently, exercise sound financial judgement, and identify discrepancies or irregularities in financial information.

• Excellent written English communication skills, particularly in preparing clear, professional commentary for clients.

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

• Previous experience in an accounting practice, outsourced finance function, or similar professional services environment.

• Familiarity with accounting platforms such as MYOB, Dext, ApprovalMax, or equivalent solutions.

• Experience collaborating with software development teams on financial process automation.

• Exposure to Australian taxation and regulatory compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Financial Review & Month-End Close

• Review and validate month-end financial close activities across a portfolio of Australian client accounts.

• Examine reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, and balance sheets to ensure accuracy and completeness.

• Identify inconsistencies, financial discrepancies, and potential reporting issues, ensuring appropriate corrective actions are taken.

• Provide an independent second-level review of client financial records to maintain strong financial controls and reporting quality.

Management Reporting & Financial Commentary

• Review management reports prepared for clients, ensuring financial information is accurate, relevant, and clearly presented.

• Prepare insightful written commentary explaining financial performance, key movements, and areas requiring attention.

• Ensure management reporting delivers meaningful financial insights to support informed business decisions.

Payment Review & Financial Controls

• Review payment runs to verify accuracy and completeness before they are submitted to clients for authorisation.

• Maintain appropriate financial oversight and contribute to consistent quality assurance across client portfolios.

• Support the integrity and reliability of financial review processes.

Finance Systems & Process Automation

• Collaborate with the Sri Lanka-based software development team to enhance automated accounting and financial workflows.

• Provide financial expertise to help define process requirements, expected outcomes, and appropriate validation controls.

• Identify potential weaknesses or inaccuracies in automated processes and recommend improvements.

• Support the development of scalable, accurate, and efficient financial management solutions.

Leadership & Financial Oversight

• Work closely with the CFO to maintain reporting accuracy and financial control standards across client accounts.

• Provide financial oversight and continuity during the CFO's absence.

• Collaborate with finance and technology colleagues to strengthen operational processes and financial reporting standards.
