UN Secretariat, through UN-Habitat, invites applications for a Field Agent in Rio de Janeiro to support the Vida Nova no Morro project in Niterói.

You will conduct household surveys, maintain accurate data records, engage with communities, participate in trainings, and report on field activities over an initial six-month period.

Fluency in Portuguese and at least one year of relevant experience in social mobilization or urban communities are preferred.

Organizational context: The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) promotes sustainable urban development and adequate housing for all. Its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (ROLAC) is based in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This role supports the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, focused on improving urban conditions in informal settlements through data systems and community engagement.

Job purpose: The Field Agent will support the "Vida Nova no Morro" project in Niterói, Brazil, by conducting household field surveys, maintaining accurate data records, and engaging with target communities. This role is crucial for strengthening the Municipality's data systems and institutional capacities to develop effective social housing policies. The Field Agent will contribute to evidence-based planning, housing assessments, and community mobilization, aligning with UN-Habitat's mandate to promote sustainable, inclusive, and integrated urban development. The position requires close collaboration with UN-Habitat's operational and technical teams, ensuring data integrity and adherence to ethical standards throughout the project's implementation over an initial six-month period.

Responsibilities: The Field Agent is responsible for conducting household field surveys using defined socioeconomic questionnaires and adhering to established protocols. This includes maintaining orderly, standardized, accurate, and structured data records, ensuring completeness and consistency. The role involves disseminating project information within target communities to foster engagement and awareness. The Field Agent will participate in required training sessions on fieldwork, data collection tools, and ethical standards. Additionally, the position requires attending project and community meetings, supporting the organization of field activities and events, and ensuring all technical activities meet UN-Habitat's quality standards and operational procedures. Collaboration with institutional knowledge management processes, including reporting and sharing information, is essential. The Field Agent must also ensure activities align with UN integrity, professionalism, and ethical standards, and submit timely monthly activity reports.

Education: A High School Diploma is required. Alternatively, two additional years of relevant technical experience beyond the minimum requirement may be considered. Fluency in Portuguese is mandatory for this position.

Work experience: A minimum of one year of experience is required in social mobilization, social work in favelas/urban communities, or work with community/social organizations in Brazil. Previous experience within the UN System is desirable.

Skills: Proficiency in handling technological tools. Knowledge and experience with data collection applications (e.g., Kobo) are desirable. Good computer skills in Windows, including Microsoft Office and Excel, are desirable. Strong communication, planning, organization, and teamwork abilities are essential.
