Overview:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Data Engineer with expertise in data architecture, data engineering, data analysis, reporting, and a basic understanding of data science techniques and workflows. The ideal candidate is an Agile learner, possesses strong problem-solving skills, works as part of a cross-functional analytics team, and is eager to solve complex data problems and deliver insights to enable analytics strategy. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary Agile team to build high-quality data pipelines and generate insights from connected data, enhancing the organization's data-driven decision-making capabilities.

Essential Functions:

• Solve complex data problems to deliver insights that help the organization achieve its goals
• Create data products for analytics and data science teams to improve productivity
• Mentor and coach other data professionals on data standards and practices
• Foster a culture of sharing, re-use, scalability, and operational efficiency of data and analytical solutions
• Lead the evaluation, implementation, and deployment of emerging tools and processes for data engineering
• Develop communication and education plans on data engineering capabilities, standards, and processes
• Partner with business analysts and solution architects on technical architectures for strategic projects
• Learn about machine learning, data science, AI, and related fields
• Ensure timely analysis and maintenance of solutions over time
• Apply expertise to analyze and solve complex problems, anticipate challenges, and recommend improvements
• Manage operational plans and lead large projects or initiatives, contributing to talent optimization strategies
• Lead technical discussions to ensure best practices among data engineers

Knowledge and Technical Skills:

• Understanding of data mesh concepts
• Proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (Python or Scala preferred)
• Ability to help structure data solutions and develop business use cases
• PhD in STEM with research experience in Data Science or 3-5 years as Lead Data Engineer with a postgraduate degree
• Experience with data warehouses, cloud services, Hadoop, BigQuery, and various database technologies
• Knowledge of data modeling, ETL, governance, and data warehousing
• Experience with big data tools like Hive, Spark, Kafka, and Linux (preferred)
• Exposure to machine learning, AI, statistics, or applied mathematics
• Passion for Agile, data-driven development, and experimentation
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and adaptability skills
