About the role
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Vehicles Electrician to join our team in the North Region. This is a key position within our automotive trades department, where you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining the electrical systems of commercial vehicles. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring our fleet operates safely and efficiently, supporting the wider objectives of the business and our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of vehicle maintenance and safety.
What you'll be doing
- Diagnosing electrical faults in commercial vehicles using appropriate diagnostic equipment and testing tools
- Repairing and replacing faulty electrical components, including batteries, alternators, starters, wiring harnesses, and lighting systems
- Performing routine electrical system maintenance and inspections on commercial vehicles
- Reading and interpreting electrical schematics and technical documentation relevant to commercial vehicle systems
- Testing electrical systems and components to ensure they meet safety and operational standards
- Documenting all repair work completed and maintaining accurate records of servicing and maintenance activities
- Liaising with customers and management to communicate repair timescales and technical issues in a clear and professional manner
- Adhering to health and safety regulations and ensuring all work is carried out in a safe manner
- Keeping up to date with developments in commercial vehicle electrical systems and technologies
What we're looking for
- A recognised qualification in automotive electrical engineering or equivalent practical experience in commercial vehicle electrical work
- Proven experience as a Commercial Vehicles Electrician or in a similar automotive electrical role within the commercial vehicle sector
- Proficiency in using diagnostic equipment and electrical testing tools commonly used in commercial vehicle maintenance
- Strong knowledge of commercial vehicle electrical systems, including charging systems, starting systems, lighting systems, and control modules
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose complex electrical faults
- A methodical and detail-oriented approach to work with a commitment to accuracy
- Valid driving licence and willingness to undertake test drives where necessary
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Current or willingness to obtain relevant health and safety certifications as required by the role
