This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Backend Engineer – Python, AWS & GenAI based in Brazil.

This full-time opportunity is suited to an experienced backend engineer passionate about building scalable systems that power advanced AI and Generative AI applications. You will design, develop, and maintain reliable backend services using Python and modern cloud technologies. Working across APIs, AI model integrations, vector databases, embedding services, and data pipelines, you will help deliver robust solutions for enterprise customers. You will take ownership of the complete backend lifecycle, from architecture and implementation to deployment, monitoring, and ongoing optimization. The role combines complex technical challenges with opportunities to influence architecture and engineering decisions. You will collaborate with an international team in a remote environment that values autonomy, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Accountabilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems using Python and frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Develop backend services supporting document retrieval, processing pipelines, and AI/GenAI workflows.
• Design and implement reliable APIs that integrate AI models, vector databases, embedding services, and other internal or external systems.
• Build reusable Python components and services that integrate effectively with AWS infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain containerized applications using Docker and modern deployment practices.
• Implement asynchronous processing and distributed system components to support scalable and reliable backend operations.
• Build and maintain logging, metrics, tracing, and internal monitoring tools to track system performance and reliability.
• Write clean, maintainable, testable, and reusable code, ensuring clear separation between business logic and infrastructure.
• Contribute to backend architecture, technical design, and engineering decisions.
• Take end-to-end ownership of backend systems, including development, deployment, monitoring, optimization, and long-term maintenance.
• Identify and resolve complex technical issues while continuously improving system performance, scalability, and reliability.

Requirements:

• 4–8 years of professional experience in software engineering, with strong hands‑on expertise in Python backend development.
• Practical experience with Python backend frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Django.
• Proven ability to design and develop scalable APIs and backend services.
• Exposure to AI/ML or Generative AI applications, including model integrations, vector databases, embeddings, or document-processing systems.
• Hands‑on experience working with AWS services and cloud-based infrastructure.
• Experience using Docker and modern deployment pipelines.
• Familiarity with distributed systems, asynchronous processing, and service-to-service communication.
• Understanding of functional programming concepts and maintainable software design principles.
• Ability to write clean, reusable, and testable code.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to work independently and take ownership of technical challenges.
