Control Risks is seeking an Associate Consultant to conduct sophisticated public record and open-source research for pre-deal due diligence, litigation support, asset traces, and other investigations in South America. The role includes guiding researchers and subcontractors, and developing special projects as the BI team grows.

Requirements include at least 3 years in investigations, fluency in English and Spanish, a Bachelor's degree or higher, and strong writing and analytical skills.

Qualificações

  • Fluency in English and Portuguese in client reports and communications.
  • Minimum of 3 years of investigations experience, including due diligence and litigation support.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher is required.
  • Demonstrated research and analysis experience in corporate/private investigations.
  • Experience using public records, media, litigation databases and online search tools.
  • Understanding of South American business and political context.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required.
  • Strong writing, analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well in a team and autonomously.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with basic Microsoft Office tools (Word, Outlook, Excel).

Responsabilidades

  • Conduct investigations using proprietary and public records and open sources across contexts for clients.
  • Summarize findings and present them in client-ready reports.
  • Brief and coordinate with case managers; guide researchers and subcontractors.
  • Contribute to improvement of methodologies and new technologies in investigations.
  • Collaborate with team in report writing and feedback processes.

Control Risks is seeking a dynamic, curious and driven individual to be part of a team conducting business intelligence and investigations in South America.

An Associate Consultant conducts sophisticated public record and open-source research, online monitoring and human intelligence gathering for pre-deal due diligence, litigation support matters, asset traces, conflict of interest investigations, threat-based investigations and anti-bribery/anti-corruption and other compliance-driven inquiries in the South America region.

The successful candidate will be a critical thinker with strong writing and communication skills, a deft, experienced user of investigative databases, and an alum of an established corporate investigations firm or unit. This is not an AML/KYC role, nor is it high-volume due diligence.

The Associate Consultant will be interested in learning more about the investigations industry and will be comfortable guiding researchers, as well as directing subcontractors on discreet tasks. There are opportunities to develop specialties and to take on special projects as the Business Intelligence team continues to grow and develop.

Knowledge and experience:
Research:
  • Conduct a range of investigations using proprietary and specialist investigative databases, online public records and open sources in a variety of contexts for internal and external clients
  • Conduct scoping research to support proposals and understand how investigative budgets are determined and the number of hours required for cases
  • “Manage up” and demonstrate ownership of investigative work by anticipating the needs and requests of the case manager
  • Brief and present findings, in writing, verbally and through charts and diagrams, to case managers
  • Help manage researchers and subcontractors
  • Seek opportunities to be improve our current methodologies, including through the application of new technology, innovation, approaches, resources and sources.
Writing:
  • Summarize relevant research findings in a well-organized report
  • Produce client-ready reports that are accurate, well-written and convey a narrative that prioritizes risk-relevant information in both English and Portuguese
Teamwork:
  • Collaborate with team members in the report writing and feedback process
  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • At least 3 years of relevant investigations experience, including sophisticated due diligence and litigation support investigations
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Demonstrated research and analysis experience in related field, such as corporate investigations or private investigations
  • Experience in the use of public records, including media and litigation databases and online search tools. Understanding of where public record information comes from and how to assess its validity
  • Basic knowledge of business and politics in South America
  • Fluency in spoken and written Spanish
  • Inquisitiveness, creative problem-solving and attention to detail
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills; ability to process and synthesize large volumes of information
  • Ability to be a team player and also to work autonomously
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and flexibility to work on multiple projects at once
  • Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office programs: Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.
