Job summary

Asmacs in Bahrain is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer to oversee GIS operation and maintenance for 220/66 kV assets, with focus on safety and reliability.

You will lead installation, testing, commissioning, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting, coordinating cross-discipline teams and ensuring compliance with standards.

The role demands strong technical knowledge, project supervision, and ability to manage a field crew in a complex utility environment.

Qualifications

• BE/BTech in Electrical Engineering with 6+ years in GIS operation, maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Minimum 3 years in installation, testing and commissioning of GIS.
• Experience in maintenance of 33/21/11kV metal clad switchgears and busbars.
• Experience with OEM or OEM channel partners.
• Ability to work across multiple discipline projects and strong leadership.
• Experience in safety management and enforcing standards.
• Strong reading of SLDs, drawings and manuals.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain 220 kV and 66 kV GIS systems.
• Lead preventive maintenance and plan proactive activities.
• Carry out repairs and replacements of GIS components.
• Troubleshoot faults, study diagrams and test results.
• Respond to system alarms and emergencies with timely actions.
• Supervise a maintenance crew and ensure safety compliance.

Knowledge Skills and Experience and Job-Related Competencies:

Educational Qualifications & Experience Profile:

• BE/B Tech in Electrical engineering with min 6+ years experience in Operation, Maintenance & troubleshooting 220 KV & 66 KV GIS (Gas Insulated Switchgear).
• Minimum 3 years of Experience in Installation, Testing & Commissioning of GIS.
• Experience in maintenance of 33/21/11kV metal clad Switchgears (Circuit Breakers and Bus bars) and other related works will be an added advantage.
• Must have worked with OEM or OEM channel partners.
• Ability to work with multiple discipline projects.
• Project management and supervision skills.
• Management of working crew under him
• Decision making ability and leadership skills.
• Time management and organization skills.
• Familiarity with rules, regulations, best practices and performance standards.
• Ensure safety within work environment and manage a complete workforce.

Competencies/Skills/Others:

• Experience in 220 KV & 66 KV GIS Operation & Maintenance.
• HV Equipment Testing & Commissioning in utility or power sector.
• Planned and Preventive maintenance of 220 KV & 66 KV GIS bays/Substations.
• Carry out corrective/maintenance repair works and replacement of parts and accessories as and when required.
• Investigation, troubleshooting and rectification of defects /faults on GIS bays.
• Attending emergency activities such as system alarms or reported breakdowns on equipment's/bays which have undergone maintenance/inspection/troubleshooting.
• Shall be familiar with operation of testing instruments TM1800, TM1700, omicron Cibano 500, omicron CT/ VT analysers, MBW/DILO instrument, SF6 gas handling plants, Contact Resistance Tester, IR Tester, density monitor testing Etc
• Experience in maintenance and testing of 33/21/11kV Circuit Breakers (Oil, Vacuum Circuit Breakers and Sf6 circuit breakers) and Bus bars will be an added advantage.
• Attending Emergency, breakdown maintenance and fault repair work on 33/21/11kV switchgears Transformer Tank Reconditioning / Overhauling works.
• Troubleshooting faults and to read and trace SLD, Drawings & Manuals.
• Excellent maintenance and testing knowledge about 11/21/33kV switchgears and circuit breakers of all leading makes like ABB/Schneider/Tamco/Alstom/GEC/Reyrolle/Siemens, Meiden/Meidensha, Fuji etc.
• Shall have recent work experience in Development and Maintenance projects in Power Transmission & Distribution utilities.
• Knowledge of Partial Discharge & Thermography on GIS.
• Shall be expert in switchgear mechanical drives and control circuits and assist in replacement, repairing and breakdown maintenance of switchgears, complete cubicle arrangement and circuit breakers.
• Sound language proves- English compulsory.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, Building effective teams, Leadership skills.
• Maintaining Records, create maintenance data base & report preparation as per client requirement.
• Supervise the works such as replace any defective parts on the GIS which include Mechanical Protective Devices, Bushings, Filter Cartridge/adsorbents, O-Ring, Seals, MCBs etc.
