Job summary

DHL Global Forwarding in Manama, Bahrain, seeks a Business Development Manager – AFR to drive growth, pursue new business opportunities, and expand DHL’s air, ocean, and road freight footprint.

You will execute BD plans, conduct market studies, and build relationships with prospects and key accounts to increase volumes and profitability across airfreight, ocean freight, and other products.

• Education Level: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience/qualification.
• Tool: CRM.

In this Business Development Manager – AFR position

• Execute business development plans and processes to achieve targeted customer growth and retention rate, revenue targets and budgets
• Deliver projects and initiatives to develop new business and maximize exposure for DHL amongst targeted prospects
• Undertake market studies and feasibility studies to assess market potential and analyze target groups
• Prospect new business development opportunities through market research, developing marketing initiatives, etc.
• Initiate contact with targeted prospects, identify decision makers and work to understand strategic business challenges and priorities
• Identify prospective customer needs and matches these with DHL’s services
• Develop leads, conduct pre-proposal visitations, prepare difficult proposals and conduct negotiations to close
• Maintain and build relationships with prospects and potential key accounts including prospects’ highest buying levels and coordinate the activities of prospect-focused teams
• Initiate new business relationships with non-buying accounts that have been targeted by the company
• Partner with local, district and regional management to coordinate customer requests and services that are being promoted
• Coordinate sales efforts with inside sales and provide flow of data on account competitors and suppliers to product management
• Identify problems that may not be clear in own area of authority and modify work methods accordingly without the benefit of defined procedures
• Convince external parties to accept complete proposals and programs, typically others have an interest exists to accept new concepts, practices and approach
• May provide functional guidance, advice or training to less experienced business development positions
• Main responsibility of the candidate is to grow the volumes and Gross profits on Airfreight, while they will also focus on growth of Ocean freight & other products

Stakeholder Management

• Connect with and influence other specialist departments and 3rd parties e.g. external service providers
• May convince others to accept new concepts, practices, and approaches
• Build strong, trusting cross-functional relationships with DHL managers
• Understand customer and key stakeholders interests and concerns and advise direct reports, customers and key stakeholders
• Provide technical guidance to line managers and employees
