ALTEN is seeking a Team Leader in Herstal, Belgium to guide a group of designers and engineers on client projects. You will manage daily technical direction, balance workloads, and ensure timely drawing releases.

The role also includes people management, mentoring, and driving team growth, with opportunities to shape the office structure and documentation. Fluency in English and French at B1/B2 is required, EU nationality mandatory.

Qualifications

• Engineering degree or strong design-office background.
• 7–12 years of experience in a mechanical design office.
• Experience leading a team: workload planning and reviews.
• Ability to check drawings: dimensioning and tolerancing.
• Background in a rigorous environment (defence/aerospace/medical/railway/automotive).
• French B1/B2 and English B1 minimum; EU nationality required.

As part of our ongoing growth, we are looking for a Team Leader to join our teams and work on client projects located in Herstal. You You will take the lead of a team of designers and engineers, and carry the people-management duties.

As a Team Leader, your main responsibilities will include:

• Lead a team of 5 to 6 mechanical designers and engineers: daily technical steering and workload balance
• Plan resources and workload, and hold the delivery dates on drawing release
• Check drawing consistency and enforce dimensioning conventions and formalism across the team’s output
• Carry the people-management duties: annual reviews, recruitment interviews, talent reviews
• Develop your team technically — teach, mentor and raise the level of the junior designers
• Contribute to the restructuring of the office into product cells, and to the recovery of its documentation

Your profile

• Engineering degree or a strong technical background with equivalent design-office experience
• 7 to 12 years of experience, gained inside a mechanical design office rather than beside one
• You have really managed a team: workload planning, annual reviews, recruitment interviews
• You can check a drawing yourself: dimensioning conventions, tolerancing, formalism
• You come from a rigorous environment — defence, aerospace, medical, railway or automotive
• French B1/B2 minimum and English B1 minimum
• EU nationality, required by our client for this defence programme
