ALTEN Belgium is seeking a Propulsion Engineer to join its Liège-based projects. You will design solid-propulsion motors and own the technical specifications, while coordinating with external suppliers and internal teams on quality and risk management.

With 5–10 years in propulsion and a strong CAD/simulation toolkit, you will influence motor design, verification, and eco-design decisions in a dynamic, regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Energetics Engineering, or a related field.

Responsabilités

• Design and own the definition of solid-propulsion rocket motors, at whole-motor and/or sub-component level.
• Write, maintain and defend the technical specification for propulsion development work.
• Challenge external suppliers technically: question their proposals, their sizing and their justifications.
• Supervise outsourced development work: technical follow-up, design reviews, acceptance of deliverables, schedule and risk visibility.
• Cover cold-structure and hot-structure aspects and their interfaces: case, nozzle, insulation, thermal protection.
• Support qualification activities and the exploitation of motor test results.
• Interface with the propellant, munition and fuze scopes inside the department, and with Quality, HSE and purchasing.
• Contribute to obsolescence and eco-design decisions on propulsion materials, and share knowledge with the junior members of the team.

Propulsion Engineer - ALTEN Belgium

The Position

As part of our ongoing growth, we are looking for a Propulsion Engineer to join our teams and work on client projects located in Liège. You will join our client’s engaging project, focused on the design definition of solid-propulsion rocket motors and the technical relationship with the external suppliers who develop them.

As a Propulsion Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

• Design and own the definition of solid-propulsion rocket motors, at whole-motor and/or sub-component level
• Write, maintain and defend the technical specification (cahier des charges) for propulsion development work
• Challenge external suppliers technically: question their proposals, their sizing and their justifications
• Supervise outsourced development work: technical follow-up, design reviews, acceptance of deliverables, schedule and risk visibility
• Cover cold-structure and hot-structure aspects and their interfaces: case, nozzle, insulation, thermal protection
• Support qualification activities and the exploitation of motor test results

Your profile

• Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Materials Engineering, Energetics Engineering, or a related field.
• 5 to 10 years of experience in solid propulsion engineering
• experience in the design and development of solid rocket motors, either at full-system level or for key sub-components
• Strong understanding of hot and cold structure design, including thermal protection, structural integrity, material interfaces, and high-temperature environments
• Experience writing, managing, and defending technical specifications and engineering requirements throughout the development lifecycle.
• Demonstrated ability to technically challenge suppliers, review design solutions, validate deliverables, and supervise outsourced engineering activities.
• Experience within regulated environments such as AQAP, EN9100, STANAG, export control, or REACH is considered a plus.
• Knowledge of CAD and simulation tools such as CATIA, Creo, SolidWorks, Ansys, Abaqus, MATLAB, Python, and PLM environments is advantageous.
