POLITICO Europe seeks an experienced editor to lead our global standards and ethics efforts, guiding reporters and editors through sourcing, reporting questions and post-publication issues. The role includes final edits on sensitive material and shaping newsroom policies and style guidance.

The senior editor will train staff, collaborate with teams across Europe, North America and Australia, and uphold POLITICO’s values of authoritative, nonpartisan journalism. Brussels or London base preferred.

Qualifications

• Fluency in written and spoken English

Job Description

POLITICO is looking for an experienced editor of impeccable judgment to play a leading role on our growing global standards and ethics team to ensure the integrity of our journalism across all platforms.

This hands-on editor will work side-by-side with reporters and assigning editors discussing sourcing and reporting questions as they develop and helping all journalists resolve knotty ethical questions as they arise.

They will provide a final edit on some of our most sensitive content, whether that is a story, blog post or newsletter item, and address questions internally and externally post-publication as needed.

This senior-level editor will also take a leading role in writing and updating newsroom policies and stylebook entries to offer clear direction to the staff and work alongside others to assist on training and development programs for our journalists.

This role comes with a mandate to uphold POLITICO’s editorial values and commitment to authoritative, nonpartisan and tough-mindedly fair journalism.

This position may be based in either Brussels or London, but this editor should be able to collaborate comfortably with teams across Europe, North America and Australia.

What You’ll Do

• Serve as a hands-on editor offering pre-publication guidance on reporting
• Provide a final edit on sensitive content
• Address and resolve issues related to our journalism after it is published
• Help research and write newsroom policies and stylebook entries
• Assist in designing training programs for POLITICO journalists
• Ensure quality controls are in place across the newsroom

• Ability to calmly juggle multiple tasks in stressful situations
• Desire to collaborate with journalists across the newsroom, helping broker solutions to challenging situations
• Excellent judgment and reasoning skills
• Experience editing complicated and sensitive stories preferred
