Job summary

Centrica plc is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to lead backend services and desktop app development, aligning with a unified platform strategy. You will contribute to scalable, secure solutions and mentor peers across cross-functional teams.

You will work with AWS, Kubernetes, and modern databases, shaping the next generation of Centrica Energy platforms, in a collaborative, growth-focused environment.

Qualifications

• Significant experience developing enterprise applications using .NET C#.
• Knowledge of modern software engineering practices including cloud technologies, system design, and DevOps.
• Proven experience designing distributed systems and making sound architectural decisions.
• Desire to build maintainable, well-tested software with long-term sustainability.
• Experience with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Datadog, MongoDB, PostgreSQL and MSSQL is a plus.

As part of this role, you will: Lead the design, development, and enhancement of backend services and APIs using .NET C#. Develop resilient cloud-native solutions using AWS, Kubernetes, messaging technologies, and modern database platforms. Mentor fellow engineers and contribute to engineering excellence through code reviews, testing practices, and continuous improvement.

About You

You are an experienced software engineer who enjoys solving complex problems and turning ideas into reliable, scalable solutions. You thrive in collaborative environments where people challenge each other, share knowledge, and work together towards a common goal. While strong technical skills are important, we're equally interested in your curiosity, judgement, and ability to help others succeed. We’re particularly interested in candidates who bring:

• Significant experience developing enterprise applications using .NET C#.
• Strong knowledge of modern software engineering practices, including cloud technologies, system design, and DevOps.
• Proven experience designing distributed systems and making sound architectural decisions.
• A passion for building maintainable, well-tested software with long-term sustainability in mind.
• The ability to partner effectively with business stakeholders, alongside experience with technologies such as AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka, RabbitMQ, Datadog, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, and MSSQL.
• Previous experience within energy trading is beneficial but not essential.
• Strong engineering capability, technical leadership, and a growth mindset matter far more than industry background.
