Job summary

Showpad is seeking a Backend Engineer to build AI-powered features and scalable serverless backends. You will work on APIs, event-driven systems, and integrations with third-party platforms, collaborating with senior engineers and mentoring juniors.

The role blends in-office and remote work across Ghent and Bucharest. Required: 3+ years backend development, strong TS/Node.js, interest in AI/LLM tech, and AWS familiarity.

Qualifications

• 3+ years developing production-ready backend systems.
• Strong TypeScript and Node.js skills with API focus.
• Interest in AI/LLM integration and prompt engineering.
• Experience with event-driven, serverless architectures and microservices.
• Cloud experience, AWS preferred (Lambda, DynamoDB, Bedrock, OpenSearch, API Gateway).
• Solid testing approach: unit and integration tests; TDD is a plus.
• Ability to break down work, estimate, and prioritize in an agile team.
• Data modeling for scalable, multi-tenant environments.

About the position

As a Backend Engineer in one of our AI-focused teams, you will help build intelligent, AI-powered features that enhance how sales teams work. You’ll develop and maintain serverless, event-driven systems and APIs that integrate with third-party services. Working closely with senior engineers, you’ll take ownership of well-scoped features and contribute to technical and product discussions, helping design solutions that use modern AI capabilities to deliver real value to users. Rather than a monolithic environment, you’ll work within an ecosystem of services and help improve their reliability and quality. Your work will shape the end-user experience for all our customers.

Must haves

• 3+ years developing production-ready backend systems.
• Solid proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js. Experience with JVM languages is a plus.
• Interest in or early experience with AI/LLM integration and prompt engineering.
• Working knowledge of event-driven systems (message queues, asynchronous workflows). Experience with serverless architectures and state machines is a plus.
• Experience in a cloud environment. AWS experience is a plus, particularly Lambda, DynamoDB, Bedrock, OpenSearch, and API Gateway.
• A solid understanding of why testing matters at every stage, with practical experience writing unit and integration tests. Familiarity with test-driven development is a plus.
• Ability to break down and estimate well-defined pieces of work, and to prioritize them with guidance.
• Ability to model data and queries around feature requirements with performance in mind. Experience in a multi-tenant database environment is a plus.
• A continuous integration and delivery mindset.
• Experience building or consuming APIs, and collaborating with internal or external data consumers.
• A team player mentality, committed to the full software development life cycle in an agile team.

Nice to have

• Experience with search and retrieval systems, vector search, or semantic search.
• Experience with backend systems for AI/ML-powered products.
