Showpad in Ghent is seeking a Senior Backend Engineer to build AI-powered backend features and orchestrate a scalable, event-driven microservices ecosystem. You’ll work on serverless architectures and API integrations, contributing to product decisions and system reliability.

The role involves collaborating in an agile team, code reviews, and mentoring peers. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in scalable backend systems, strong TypeScript/Node.js skills, and an interest in AI/LLM integration.

Qualifications

• 5+ years developing scalable backend systems.
• Experience with search and retrieval systems, vector search, semantic search.
• Experience with AI/ML-powered backend products is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js; JVM languages a plus.
• Interest in AI/LLM integration and prompt engineering.
• Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven systems (MQs, state machines).
• Experience with AWS and services like Lambda, DynamoDB, Bedrock, OpenSearch, API Gateway.
• Advocate for test-driven development and strong testing at all stages.
• Ability to model data and queries for performance and scalability.
• CI/CD mindset and agile collaboration.
• Experience designing APIs for internal/public data consumers.
• Team-oriented, SDLC participation in agile teams.

About The Position

As a Senior Backend Engineer in one of the AI focused teams, you will help shape the future of intelligent, AI-powered features that enhance how sales teams work. You'll build and maintain serverless event-driven systems and APIs that integrate with third-party services. You'll be responsible for driving technical and product decisions based on your expertise, designing solutions that leverage modern AI capabilities to deliver real value to users. Rather than a monolithic environment, you will help develop an ecosystem of services, as you identify and isolate parts of the system to increase reliability and promote quality. Your decisions will not only have an impact on the way we build our product but also on the end-user experience for all our customers.

What We’re Looking For Nice To Have

• 5+ years developing scalable, production-ready backend systems.
• Experience with search and retrieval systems, vector search, semantic search
• Experience with backend systems for AI/ML-powered products is a plus.
• Strong proficiency in TypeScript and Node.js. Experience with JVM languages is a plus.
• Interest in or experience with AI/LLM integration and prompt engineering.
• Experience with serverless architectures and event-driven systems (message queues, state machines, asynchronous workflows).
• Experience working in a cloud environment. Experience working in AWS and familiarity with services such as Lambda, DynamoDB, Bedrock, Opensearch, and API Gateway is a plus.
• Understanding the importance of strong software testing at every stage and an advocate for test-driven development.
• Comfortable analyzing, estimating, and prioritizing complex projects.
• Ability to model data and queries around feature requirements with an emphasis on performance and scalability. Experience working in a tenant database environment is a plus
• Continuous integration and delivery mindset.
• Experience designing and implementing APIs for, and collaborating with, internal and/or public data consumers.
• Team player mentality, committed to the whole software development life cycle in an agile team.
