Job summary

IBA, headquartered in Belgium and a global leader in Proton Therapy, seeks a hands-on Engineer to install, operate and maintain the Proton Therapy System (PTS). You will troubleshoot, perform maintenance, support testing, and contribute to upgrades and inspections, directly supporting clinical operations.

You will collaborate with clinicians and engineers, document issues, mentor teammates, and be the primary technical contact on site.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with electronics/electrical troubleshooting and mechanical system repair.
  • Ability to work autonomously on well-defined tasks.
  • Proactive, clear communication with clinical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Install, operate and maintain the Proton Therapy System (PTS).
  • Troubleshoot complex issues and perform routine/corrective maintenance.
  • Support hardware/software testing and contribute to upgrades/inspections.
  • Document issues and share knowledge with the team.
  • Mentor new engineers and act as technical advisor on site.

Mission

We’re looking for a hands-on Engineer to install, operate and maintain our cutting-edge Proton Therapy System (PTS). You’ll troubleshoot issues, perform routine and corrective maintenance, support hardware/software testing, and contribute to system upgrades and inspections. Your work will directly support clinical operations and global system performance.

  • Document system symptoms, troubleshooting activities, root cause findings, and corrective actions accurately to improve knowledge sharing and reduce future downtime.
  • Build trusted relationships with clinical staff by serving as a dependable technical advisor, providing expertise, clear communication, and responsive support throughout the treatment day.
  • Become an integral member of the local service team by sharing knowledge, supporting teammates during critical situations, maintaining operational flexibility, and contributing to a positive, collaborative work environment.
  • Represent the company professionally as the primary technical point of contact for the customer site.
  • Balance technical expertise with empathy and professionalism when supporting clinicians during high-pressure patient care situations.
  • Operate, maintain, and optimize the Proton Therapy System throughout all phases of deployment, including QA, EHS, development, testing, validation, and clinical operations.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical, mechanical, software, and integrated system issues.
  • Partner with Engineering and R&D to identify opportunities that improve equipment reliability, serviceability, usability, and overall clinical performance.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, system upgrades, and scheduled inspections.
  • Communicate system status, risks, and recovery plans clearly and professionally to customers, leadership, and internal support teams.
  • Support hardware and software testing while minimizing disruption to clinical operations.
  • Participate in unit, integration, validation, and acceptance testing activities.
  • Mentor new team members, subcontractors, and field engineers while fostering a culture of continuous learning.
  • Train customers on the safe, effective, and efficient operation of the Proton Therapy System.
  • The incumbent must successfully pass the Oral Board examinations within the first 12 months of employment to remain eligible for this role.

Compensation and Benefits

Approximate Salary Range: $69,000 - $93,000

Variable Pay: Profit sharing, time-based compensation, “above & beyond” award, referral rewards.
