Asenium is looking for a Freelance Senior Test Specialist to join a dedicated testing team working on a strategic, long-term assignment.
The project supports a central platform within the Belgian energy market. The testing team is responsible for planning and executing the System Acceptance Testing (SAT) scope for major releases. Functional changes are tested manually, while sanity and regression tests are performed using a semi-automated testing tool.
Working closely with the Team Lead and four Medior Test Specialists, you will take ownership of complex testing activities, support technical coordination and contribute to the quality of business-critical applications and integrations.
Key responsibilities
- Analyse functional requirements and technical design documentation.
- Design complex SAT scenarios, test cases and test data.
- Perform manual functional testing and execute semi-automated sanity and regression tests.
- Validate data, services and integrations using SQL, SOAP UI and XML.
- Maintain traceability between requirements, test cases, evidence and results.
- Record, investigate and track defects through to resolution.
- Perform first-line analysis of defects reported during major releases.
- Prepare reports covering progress, test coverage, defects, risks and blockers.
- Support the Team Lead with test planning and technical coordination.
- Guide the Medior Test Specialists during test preparation and execution.
- Provide functional input to the external vendor preparing test automation scripts.
- Collaborate with business analysts, technical teams, market participants, distribution grid operators and external suppliers.
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.
Required profile
- At least 5 years of experience in functional testing.
- Proven ability to design and execute complex test scenarios.
- Strong knowledge of formal testing methodologies and techniques.
- Experience in both Agile/Scrum and Waterfall environments.
- Practical experience writing and executing SQL queries.
- Experience testing services and integrations using SOAP UI and XML.
- Ability to read and understand technical design documentation.
- Strong defect-management, troubleshooting and analytical skills.
- Experience working in complex, multi-application environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder-management skills.
- English at C1 level or above.
- French or Dutch at C1 level or above.
- Full-time availability and ability to work on-site in Brussels at least two days per week.
Preferred qualifications
- Experience in the Belgian energy sector.
- Knowledge of structure, measure, cross-domain, billing, infeed or settlement processes.
- ISTQB Foundation Level certification or higher.
- Experience with System Acceptance Testing.
- Knowledge of DevOps, VBScript or test automation.
- Previous experience supporting or mentoring testing professionals.
