Job summary

Stibbe Brussels is seeking an experienced Senior Risk & Compliance Officer to join the Risk & Compliance team in Brussels. You will support the Head of Risk & Compliance and two colleagues, helping build the compliance framework and improve processes.

You will manage day-to-day checks, risk assessments, and reporting while collaborating with lawyers and offices. The role offers hybrid work and development opportunities in a complex regulatory environment.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Law and at least four years of relevant experience in legal or compliance.
• Solid AML/KYC knowledge and ownership of daily compliance work.
• Familiar with compliance & client onboarding tools such as Intapp.
• Process-minded with strong attention to detail and ability to improve workflows.
• Hands-on with ownership and accountability.
• Strong analytical and organisational skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management with lawyers and professionals.
• Fluent in Dutch, French and English.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to the implementation and execution of the firm’s Risk & Compliance strategy and onboarding tools.
• Execute day-to-day compliance checks including onboarding, conflicts, KYC/AML, DAC6, market abuse, GDPR and sanctions.
• Provide structured analysis of potential risks and mitigation strategies.
• Prepare and deliver structured reporting on compliance matters to stakeholders.
• Act as a senior reference within the team and supervise activities.
• Deliver training and awareness initiatives.
• Collaborate with Risk & Compliance colleagues across offices (Luxembourg and Amsterdam).
• Work closely with Head of Risk & Compliance to ensure efficient execution of the framework.

To strengthen their Risk & Compliance team, they are looking for an experienced Senior Risk & Compliance Officer, who will work alongside the Head of Risk & Compliance and two colleagues.

What your future may hold

Reporting to the Head of Risk & Compliance, you will help implement the firm’s strategy while ensuring reliable day-to-day execution. Your workload will range from routine conflict checks to complex risk assessments and cross-office discussions.

Your responsibilities include:

• Contributing to the implementation and execution of the firm’s Risk & Compliance strategy, includingthe implementation of Intapp, the compliance & client onboarding tool. Building expertise in the platform and become a key contact for its use within the team.


• Executing day-to-day compliance checks and processes, including client onboarding, conflicts of interest, KYC/AML, DAC6, market abuse, GDPR and international sanctions


• Providing structured analysis of potential risks and contributing to appropriate mitigation strategies


• Preparing and delivering structured reporting on compliance matters to relevant stakeholders


• Acting as a senior point of reference within the team, providing guidance and supporting the supervision of team activities


• Delivering training and awareness initiatives


• Collaborating with Risk & Compliance colleagues and other relevant stakeholders in Stibbe’s Luxembourg and Amsterdam offices


• Working closely with the Head of Risk & Compliance and other stakeholders to ensure consistent and efficient execution of the firm’s compliance framework.

You will build your understanding of the regulatory requirements specific to a law firm and establish trusted relationships with the team, partners and lawyers. As the function evolves, you may also interact directly with clients.

Your skillset

• You hold a Master’s degree in Law and have at least four years of relevant experience in a legal and/or compliance environment.


• You have solid, practical knowledge of AML/KYC. You can take ownership of daily compliance work while developing expertise in the wider regulatory framework applicable to law firms.


• You are familiar with the implementation of compliance & client onboarding tools (e.g. Intapp or similar platforms).


• You are process-minded, with strong attention to detail and the ability to improve and structure workflows.


• You combine a hands-on approach with a sense of ownership and accountability.


• You have strong analytical and organisational skills.


• You demonstrate excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, enabling you to interact confidently with lawyers and business professionals.


• You are proactive and solution-oriented.


• You are motivated to keep learning and build a long-term career in compliance. You can adapt to changing priorities.


• You are fluent in Dutch, French and English.
