Vivid Resourcing is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Belgium to lead the design and development of complex machines throughout the lifecycle—from concept to production. You will own mechanical architectures and drive reliability, manufacturability, and cost considerations.

You will collaborate with electrical, controls, software and manufacturing teams, provide technical leadership, and mentor other engineers while delivering robust machine designs across multiple projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• Significant mechanical engineering experience with machine design.
• Strong 3D CAD experience, especially SolidWorks.
• Good understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, tolerancing and assembly.

We're currently recruiting for a Senior Mechanical Engineer to take a leading role in the design and development of complex machines and mechanical systems. You will be involved throughout the full machine development lifecycle, from initial concepts and feasibility studies through detailed design, prototyping, testing, commissioning, and transfer into production.

This is a hands‑on engineering role with a strong focus on machine design. You will develop mechanical solutions for machines, mechanisms, structures, assemblies, and moving systems, taking ownership of designs from the initial concept through to a fully functioning machine. You will need to balance technical performance, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and ease of assembly while solving practical engineering challenges.

As a senior member of the team, you will take technical ownership of complex machine design projects and provide guidance to other engineers. You will work closely with electrical, controls, software, manufacturing, and other engineering teams to ensure that the mechanical design integrates effectively with the complete machine.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design and development of machines and complex mechanical systems from concept through to production.
• Develop machine concepts and mechanical architectures based on functional and technical requirements.
• Design mechanical assemblies, mechanisms, structures, frames, drives, fixtures, and moving components.
• Create detailed 3D CAD models, assemblies, and 2D manufacturing drawings.
• Select appropriate materials, mechanical components, actuators, bearings, drives, and other machine elements.
• Carry out mechanical calculations and analysis to validate designs, including loads, stresses, tolerances, and mechanical performance.
• Design and optimise mechanisms for movement, positioning, handling, and automation.
• Develop prototypes and support machine build, testing, and commissioning activities.
• Troubleshoot mechanical issues during development, testing, installation, and production.
• Optimise machine designs for reliability, manufacturability, assembly, maintenance, and cost.
• Work closely with manufacturing and suppliers on machining, fabrication, component selection, and assembly requirements.
• Collaborate with electrical, controls, software, and other engineering disciplines to deliver complete machines.
• Support design reviews, risk assessments, testing, and validation activities.
• Create and maintain technical documentation, drawings, BOMs, specifications, and other engineering documentation.
• Identify opportunities to improve existing machines, mechanisms, and engineering processes.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to less experienced mechanical engineers.
• Take ownership of mechanical engineering activities and contribute to key technical decisions throughout projects.

Your Profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
• Significant professional experience in mechanical engineering and machine design.
• Proven experience designing machines, mechanisms, or complex mechanical assemblies.
• Strong experience with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks; experience with other CAD packages is also considered.
• Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, manufacturing processes, tolerancing, and assembly.
• Experience with moving mechanisms, automation, machinery, or electromechanical systems.
• Experience taking machine designs from concept through to prototype, testing, and production.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with a practical, hands‑on approach.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Comfortable taking technical ownership and making engineering decisions.
• Experience with pneumatics, hydraulics, motors, actuators, or other machine technologies is an advantage.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to provide technical guidance to other engineers.
