Job summary

Jobgether is seeking a Senior Java Engineer (Payments) for a partner in Belgium. You will design and deliver secure, scalable payment platforms, taking end-to-end ownership of mission-critical systems in a specialist payments consultancy, fully remote.

You will lead architectural decisions, mentor peers, implement event-driven architectures with Apache Kafka, and collaborate with global clients to ensure performance, security, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• At least seven years of professional Java development experience, including design, delivery, and operation of complex production systems.
• Hands-on experience building or operating payment/fintech systems including transaction processing and regulatory constraints.
• Strong Java 21+ and Spring Boot expertise for RESTful and event-driven microservices.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable enterprise-grade applications using Java and Spring Boot, owning features from design to production deployment.
• Lead technical architecture, define service boundaries, data models, and integration patterns for complex components.
• Deliver payment tech solutions, develop platforms and integrations with external systems and providers for secure financial transactions.
• Ensure reliability, security, and regulatory compliance across applications.
• Build event-driven systems with Apache Kafka and robust message processing.
• Collaborate with product managers, solution architects, and DevOps to translate requirements into solutions and evaluate trade-offs.
• Improve CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, and deployment processes to boost delivery speed and reliability.
• Promote code quality, lead reviews, and mentor junior engineers to raise engineering standards.
• Manage production incidents with root-cause analyses and sustainable fixes.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools judiciously, validating outputs for correctness and security.
