Daikin Europe is seeking a Senior Embedded System Architect in Ghent to act as the technical authority for the embedded systems under your responsibility. You will ensure architectural choices are scalable and aligned with Daikin’s long‑term strategy, and you will oversee development from a system and architecture perspective rather than day‑to‑day coding.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electronics, Embedded Systems, ICT or related field.
  • Extensive experience with embedded systems, hardware and software.
  • Proven experience in system-level or software architecture roles for embedded products.
  • Comfortable working on a conceptual/abstract level while staying connected to real-world implementations.
  • Strong communicator capable of aligning technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Enjoys working in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Proactive mindset and ability to shape long-term technical strategies.

Responsabilités

  • Defining and maintaining the overall embedded system architecture, covering hardware, software, interfaces and connectivity.
  • Translating business, product, quality and regulatory requirements into clear architectural concepts and system specifications.
  • Making and documenting architectural trade-offs with regard to performance, cost, reliability, safety, cybersecurity and maintainability.
  • Providing technical guidance to internal development teams and steering external development partners to ensure alignment with the defined architecture.
  • Reviewing system designs, technical proposals and implementation choices from suppliers and internal teams.
  • Taking ownership of architectural decisions throughout the complete product lifecycle.
  • Supporting projects by analysing complex system issues, proposing robust solutions and ensuring correct prioritisation and implementation.
  • Driving platform thinking and reuse across products where possible.
  • Following technological evolutions and industry trends, and proactively proposing improvements to Daikin’s embedded architectures.
  • Acting as a technical mentor for junior engineers and architects.

About EDC

The EMEA Electrics and Controls (EDC) department, located at Tech Lane Ghent Science Park, is one of the fastest growing departments within the EMEA Development Centre of Daikin.

The Team

Within our Equipment Controls team, engineers work in their field of expertise (embedded hardware, software and system architecture). The team is responsible for delivering complete embedded solutions, starting from market and product requirements, over system architecture and design, up to industrialisation, validation and maintenance in collaboration with suppliers and internal stakeholders.

As a Senior Embedded System Architect, you are the technical authority for the embedded systems under your responsibility. You ensure architectural choices are consistent, scalable and aligned with Daikin’s long‑term strategy.

You will not focus on day‑to‑day coding, but instead oversee and steer development from a system and architecture perspective. Your key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and maintaining the overall embedded system architecture, covering hardware, software, interfaces and connectivity.
  • Translating business, product, quality and regulatory requirements into clear architectural concepts and system specifications.
  • Making and documenting architectural trade‑offs with regard to performance, cost, reliability, safety, cybersecurity and maintainability.
  • Providing technical guidance to internal development teams and steering external development partners to ensure alignment with the defined architecture.

Profile

  • You have proven experience in system‑level or software architecture roles for embedded products.
  • You are comfortable working on a conceptual and abstract level, while maintaining a strong connection with real‑world implementations.
  • You are a strong communicator who can align technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You enjoy working in a complex, multidisciplinary environment.
  • You naturally strive for consensus while being able to take clear architectural decisions when needed.
  • You have a proactive mindset and enjoy shaping long‑term technical strategies.
