Job summary

Octave BricsCAD is seeking an experienced Software Architect to shape the future of BricsCAD architecture. You’ll lead cross-team coordination, design modular, well-documented code, and drive architectural refactoring across repositories and subsystems.

Based in Ghent with a hybrid work model, you’ll collaborate with senior engineers and R&D managers, own architecture documentation, and participate in roadmap planning to assess the architectural impact of new features and technologies.

Qualifications

• BSc, MSc or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or other (applied) sciences (or you can prove you are at this level in some other way).
• 7+ years professional experience (or equivalent by showing relevant personal/student work) with C++ (at least C++11).
• 2+ years experience in senior engineering or software architecture roles, with a proven track record of cross-team collaboration and stakeholder management.
• Ability to design and develop complex software.
• Ability to quickly read and understand existing (legacy) code and refactor it at a high level.
• Ability to plan your own work independently and reliably.
• Ability to plan and project-manage work of other developers in other teams.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Dutch is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• You function as a key contributor to the architectural design of new product areas or major enhancements to the BricsCAD product.
• Help incrementally improve the BricsCAD codebase by identifying hotspots and proposing solutions to reduce technical debt.
• Collaborate with R&D management and software engineers to ensure adherence to the product architecture across teams.
• Be prepared to perform central architectural refactoring work when needed.
• Own code-architectural documentation and update or create documents to formalize architecture know-how.
• Participate in half-yearly roadmap planning to assess architectural impact of new features.
• Partner with Product Management in early discovery and feasibility validations of product offerings.
• Work with senior engineers, managers and teams to unblock and move initiatives forward.
