Job summary

Octave is seeking a Senior Software Developer to join BricsCAD development in Ghent, Belgium. You will do hands-on C++ development (C++11 or newer) and shape architecture, while mentoring teammates and improving code quality.

You will design robust solutions, review code, and collaborate across teams in an international environment. Hybrid work with flexible hours and remote options are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor, Master or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering or another relevant technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
• At least 3 years of professional experience, predominantly in C++ using C++11 or later.
• Strong software-design and problem-solving skills, including object-oriented design and algorithmic complexity.
• Ability to design and develop complex software systems.
• Ability and willingness to explore, refactor and improve a substantial existing codebase.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as geometry and linear algebra.
• Ability to plan and coordinate work independently and reliably.
• Ability and willingness to mentor other developers.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with professional fluency in English.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership of complex software components and functionality from design through implementation and maintenance.
• Design robust, maintainable technical solutions with attention to workflow coverage, predictable behavior, performance and reliable outcomes.
• Contribute to software architecture and technical design decisions within the team.
• Improve existing implementations and address technical debt where appropriate.
• Maintain a strong focus on quality through automated testing, thoughtful design and code reviews.
• Review the work of other developers and provide constructive technical feedback.
• Mentor and support less experienced developers.
• Investigate complex problems, including root-cause analysis and user-workflow understanding, that may cross component or team boundaries.
• Collaborate with other teams and technical stakeholders on solutions affecting shared product areas.
• Work independently and reliably while coordinating effectively with the team.
• Help improve engineering practices, tools and development processes.
