Job summary

Pauwels Consulting in Brussels is seeking a senior database specialist to modernize Azure data platforms and establish cloud-native practices. You will design and deploy enterprise-grade services, govern Cosmos DB/NoSQL, and drive data masking and privacy across platforms.

You will build reusable deployment frameworks with Terraform and CI/CD, troubleshoot performance with Azure Monitor, and mentor the team to ensure reliability and operational excellence in a cloud-first environment.

Qualifications

• 8+ years in database administration with SQL Server and T-SQL.
• 5+ years cloud database engineering focusing on Azure SQL DB and Cosmos DB.
• 5+ years designing infrastructure with Terraform, CI/CD, and Azure DevOps.
• Experience with Azure Landing Zones, Private Endpoints, and Managed Identities.
• Proven expertise in performance troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Query Store, Extended Events.
• Strong knowledge of Azure Key Vault, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery.
• Leadership and collaboration skills; proactive, solution-oriented.
• English plus Dutch or French language skills.

This role involves designing, automating, and securing enterprise-grade database services in Azure while transitioning traditional practices toward a cloud-native engineering model.

• Design and deploy enterprise-grade database services within cloud landing zones, focusing on networking, security, and high availability.
• Establish governance and data modeling standards for CosmosDB and NoSQL environments.
• Industrialize data refresh, masking, and scrambling solutions to ensure data privacy and compliance across platforms.
• Develop and maintain reusable deployment frameworks using Terraform and CI/CD pipelines.
• Perform performance analysis, troubleshooting, and capacity planning using advanced monitoring tools.
• Provide technical leadership and coaching to team members while ensuring operational excellence.

• You possess 8+ years of experience in database administration with SQL Server and T-SQL.
• You bring 5+ years of cloud database engineering experience focusing on Azure SQL Database and Cosmos DB.
• You possess 5+ years designing and deploying infrastructure using Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and Azure DevOps.
• You have experience with cloud platform components including Azure Landing Zones, Private Endpoints, and Managed Identities.
• You bring proven expertise in performance troubleshooting using Azure Monitor, Query Store, and Extended Events.
• You possess strong knowledge of Azure KeyVault, High Availability, and Disaster Recovery strategies.
• You're a technical leader with a proactive, solution-oriented attitude and strong collaboration skills.
• You have a good command of English combined with a good knowledge of Dutch or French.

Nice to Haves

• Experience in highly regulated environments and building database governance frameworks.
• Knowledge of SQL Managed Instance, Azure Functions, or AKS.
• Familiarity with monitoring tools such as AppDynamics, SQL Sentry, or Redgate.
• Experience with data modeling tools like Erwin or Azure Purview.
• Understanding of TOGAF or Archimate frameworks.
