Job summary

EngiFlex BV in Belgium seeks an experienced SAP Backend Developer to translate functional specs into robust ABAP solutions. You will work on S/4HANA development, IS-U topics, and interface integrations while ensuring governance and best practices.

Responsibilities include designing modular ABAP, implementing IDoc/ALE and BAPI/RFC interfaces, and collaborating with the Basis team on security and performance. English required; French and/or Dutch preferred.

Tasks and responsibilities

As an SAP/ABAP Developer, you translate functional specifications and discussions with functional analysts into technical solutions. You assess proposed approaches, challenge them where needed, and provide workload estimates.

• You prepare and complete technical specifications using the available templates and obtain validation from the functional analyst before development starts.
• You ensure that developments align with the applicable technical architecture, development standards, naming conventions, SAP best practices, and governance rules.
• You analyze and implement SAP Notes.
• You develop SAP backend solutions in classical ABAP and Object-Oriented ABAP, with a strong focus on modular code, reuse of existing libraries, and compliance with ABAP Test Cockpit quality checks.
• You discuss and formally validate any deviation from the technical specifications with the functional analyst during implementation.
• You work closely with the SAP Basis team on topics such as authorizations, infrastructure, and technical system configuration.
• You execute and document unit tests thoroughly, including non-functional aspects such as performance, query optimization, mass processing, and technical connectivity.
• You analyze reported defects from test campaigns or production incidents and resolve them in consultation with the relevant functional analyst.
• You prepare the technical documentation for each developed object based on the implemented solution and the approved specifications.
• You may support deployments to test, acceptance, and production environments. Some interventions can take place outside standard business hours.

In this senior role, you may also be entrusted with more specialized responsibilities.

• You develop solutions for complex or highly specialized SAP topics that require deep expertise.
• You contribute to SAP S/4HANA development and interface integrations, including IDoc/ALE, BAPI/RFC, SOAP Web Services, OData, and SAP Gateway.
• You work on SAP IS-U solutions within the utilities domain, across multiple functional areas such as Device Management, Structuring/Switching, Metering, EDM, Billing, Customer Services, and AMI.
• In collaboration with the SAP Basis team, you analyze and implement non-functional requirements related to security, reliability, availability, performance, maintainability, operability, and compatibility.
• You act as a technical reference point and SPOC for complex technical subjects within the team.
• You support the Team Lead in improving development frameworks, standards, and cross-functional solution design.
• You contribute to the evaluation and introduction of new tools and technologies.
• You share expertise with the team and coach junior developers during both the specification phase and implementation.

Your profile

• Proven experience as an SAP Backend Developer.
• Proven experience in SAP S/4HANA development.
• Strong knowledge of classical ABAP and solid hands‑on experience with Object-Oriented ABAP.
• Proven experience in SAP interface development, including IDoc/ALE, BAPI/RFC, SOAP Web Services, OData, and SAP Gateway.
• Proven experience with SAP key tools and technical components such as BOR and CDS Views.
• Experience with data migration using LSMW and EMIGALL.
• Senior‑level experience as an SAP IS-U Developer in the utilities sector.
• Experience in SAP IS-U across at least three functional domains, such as Device Management, Structuring/Switching, Metering, EDM, Billing, Customer Services, or AMI.
• Experience with Web Dynpro, BRF+, SAP BPEM/EMMA, BOL, SAP CRM, and the MPM/IDEX-GC framework.
• Knowledge of S/4HANA Embedded Analytics, SAP Fiori Launchpad, and Adobe Forms.
• Knowledge of additional technical areas such as Dynpro/Dialog Programming, FEH, BOPF, and FPM in Web Dynpro is relevant for this role.
• Familiarity with supporting tools such as Jira, Omnitracker, SAP Solution Manager, and SOAP UI.
• Master's degree in Information Technology, or equivalent relevant background.
• Fluent English is required.
• You communicate fluently in French and/or Dutch.
