The Biosphere Impact Studies (BIS) research unit at SCK CEN in Mol is seeking a researcher who combines experimental work and modelling to evaluate dispersion, exposure and effects of radiological contamination on humans and the environment.

You will design and perform experiments (plants focus), analyse results and translate them into mathematical models for radiological impact studies, site remediation projects and international collaborations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or PhD in ecology, biophysics, bioscience engineering, environmental sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Strong experimental and methodological laboratory skills with high safety and quality standards.
  • Strong analytical skills and environmental knowledge.
  • Proven experience in modelling and translating experimental results into conceptual and mathematical applications.
  • Experience in applied research projects, particularly in radiological impact and site remediation.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills (reports, risk assessments, scientific publications).

Responsabilités

  • Design and perform laboratory experiments on the behaviour, exposure, and effects of radionuclides and ionising radiation (focus on plants).
  • Analyse complex datasets and translate them into applicable mathematical models and tools.
  • Actively contribute to radiological impact and site remediation projects.
  • Analyse, interpret, and report research results clearly.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team and present findings at international forums.
