A leading European battery energy storage developer located in Belgium is seeking a Project Engineering Manager for BESS projects. This role involves leading engineering efforts from early development through construction, managing complex project activities, and ensuring compliance with local regulations. The ideal candidate has over 7 years of experience in energy engineering, particularly with Battery Energy Storage Systems. Strong problem-solving and stakeholder management skills are essential. This full-time position offers the opportunity to contribute to the energy transition.

Qualifications

• 7+ years’ experience in engineering roles within energy, renewables, or infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience in delivering grid-scale energy projects.
• Experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently.
• Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering, including groundworks, drainage, and site infrastructure.
• Experience managing multiple complex projects concurrently from a project engineering or owner’s engineer perspective.
• Familiarity with Belgian permitting and construction processes is advantageous.
• Solid understanding of electrical–civil interfaces (cable routing, equipment foundations).
• Knowledge of HSE standards and grid connection processes is a strong plus.
• Proficient in AutoCAD and related engineering tools.
• Fluent in English and French; Dutch is a strong advantage.

Responsabilités

• Lead engineering design and technical reviews for large-scale BESS projects.
• Manage engineering activities from development through construction handover.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and ensure compliance with Belgian regulations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary internal teams (civil, electrical, development, procurement, construction, HSE).
• Interface with external stakeholders, including EPCs, Owner’s Engineers, consultants, architects, permitting authorities, and grid operators.
• Support site assessments, geotechnical investigations, layout optimisation, and early-stage engineering feasibility.
• Contribute to tendering and procurement by preparing technical specifications and evaluating bids.
• Oversee civil and structural engineering deliverables (foundations, drainage, access roads, site infrastructure).
• Act as engineering lead during construction, supporting site activities, inspections, factory acceptance tests, and contractor coordination.
• Monitor engineering progress, technical risks, and quality throughout execution phases.
• Ensure accurate documentation, design reviews, and as-built records are completed to required standards.

About The Role

A leading European battery energy storage developer and owner, operating at the forefront of the energy transition. The business develops, finances, constructs, and operates large-scale grid-connected BESS assets, with multiple projects in construction and a GW-scale pipeline across Europe. Backed by long-term institutional investors, the company is expanding rapidly and preparing for international growth.

The Project Engineering Manager (BESS) will play a critical role in delivering grid-scale battery energy storage projects from early-stage development through construction and commissioning. This is a hands-on project engineering leadership position, responsible for technical coordination, engineering quality, and interface management across multiple concurrent BESS projects. You will work closely with development, procurement, construction, and HSE teams, as well as EPC contractors, consultants, and grid operators, ensuring projects are delivered safely, compliantly, on time, and on budget.

Your Profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 7+ years’ experience in engineering roles within energy, renewables, or infrastructure projects.
• Proven experience delivering Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) or similar grid-scale energy projects.
• Strong understanding of civil and structural engineering, including groundworks, drainage, and site infrastructure.
