Job summary

Ghent University invites applications for a recognised researcher position in Optics Physics with focus on Silicon Photonics. The appointment is temporary for 1 year, with a possible extension up to 3 years, starting 1 November 2026.

The role blends high-level academic research with teaching duties for Bachelor’s and Master’s courses. You will mentor Master’s and doctoral students, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to research leadership in photonics.

Qualifications

• Doctoral degree must be fulfilled at the start of the appointment.
• Experience in Silicon Photonics research.
• Promising researcher demonstrated in doctoral work.
• Interest in coaching Bachelor’s/Master’s/Advanced Master’s students.
• Publications in widely disseminated peer‑reviewed journals.

Responsibilities

• Spend at least 70% of assignment on academic research.
• Assist in teaching activities at Bachelor’s or Master’s level.
• Counsel Master’s students in exercises, work placement and Master’s dissertation.
• Counsel doctoral students.
