Job summary

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to classify materials in waste streams using conventional and hyperspectral X-ray detectors. The project focuses on exploiting spectral detector capabilities and includes setting up simulations, validating detectors, running sensitivity studies, and generating classification data from experiments.

The role includes supervising Master and PhD students and publishing results.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics/engineering obtained within the last 6 years.
• Experience with high-resolution X-ray imaging experiments.
• Strong programming skills for image processing and hardware control.
• Excellent publication record in photon-counting X-ray detectors or related topics.

Responsibilities

• Set up a simulation framework for conventional and hyperspectral X-ray detectors.
• Validate the framework for specific detectors.
• Perform a thorough sensitivity study.
• Generate input data for material classification from experimental data.
• Publish results in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Supervise Master and PhD students.
