Job summary

Ghent University invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to classify materials in waste streams using conventional and hyperspectral X‑ray detectors. The project focuses on exploiting new detector spectra and high‑Z sensors, with emphasis on validation, sensitivity analysis, and data generation for classification.

You will publish results in journals, present at international conferences and contribute to supervising Master and PhD students.

Qualifications

• PhD in physics, engineering or equivalent, doctorate obtained within last 6 years.
• Experience with experimental setups for high‑resolution X‑ray imaging.
• Strong programming skills for image processing and hardware control.
• Proven record of scientific publications and conference presentations.

Responsibilities

• Set up a simulation framework for photon‑counting and hyperspectral X‑ray detectors.
• Validate the framework on specific detectors.
• Perform sensitivity studies using the framework.
• Generate input data for material classification from experimental data.
• Publish research results in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
• Contribute to supervision of master and PhD students.
