Job summary

Ghent University in Belgium seeks a postdoctoral researcher for a multidisciplinary project to classify materials in waste streams using X-ray detectors. The goal is to exploit spectral capabilities of new detectors to identify metals within mixed waste streams.

You will set up and validate simulation frameworks for conventional photon-counting and hyperspectral detectors, run sensitivity studies, generate input data from experiments, publish in journals, and supervise master and PhD students.

Qualifications

  • PhD required (thesis-based) in physics, engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with experimental setups for high-resolution X-ray imaging.
  • Good programming skills for image processing/analysis/hardware control.
  • Strong track record of scientific publications and presenting research results.
  • Experience supervising master/PhD students is a plus.
  • Strong ENGLISH language skills (spoken and written).

Responsibilities

  • Set up a simulation framework for conventional photon-counting and hyperspectral X-ray detectors with high-Z sensors.
  • Validate the framework for specific detectors.
  • Perform a thorough sensitivity study using the framework.
  • Generate input data for material classification from experimental data.
  • Publish results in scientific journals and present at international conferences.
