ABOUT GHENT UNIVERSITY

Ghent University is a world of its own. It is one of the largest, most exciting employers in the area and offers great career opportunities. With its 11 faculties and more than 80 departments offering state-of-the-art study programmes grounded in research in a wide range of academic fields, Ghent University is a logical choice for its staff and students.

YOUR TASKS

You devote at least 70% of your assignment to scientific research within your linguistic area of specialization, report on this research regularly at scientific meetings, and publish your results and findings in recognized international journals and/or books with academic publishers.

You are actively involved in the research activities of one or more research groups within the department and establish collaborations with one or more researchers affiliated with the department.

Once a year, you offer a practical workshop in which you share your methodological expertise with interested senior and junior researchers in the department.

During the three-year mandate, you submit an ERC Starting Grant application with Ghent University as the host institution.

You are willing to make a limited contribution to the academic teaching provided by the Department of Linguistics and/or to the department’s outreach activities.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

You hold a doctoral degree based on a dissertation in the field of linguistics, or an equivalently recognized degree (the degree requirements must be met by the date of appointment). For degrees obtained outside the European Union, an equivalence certificate from NARIC must be provided.

You specialize in any subfield of linguistics/linguistic subdiscipline (fundamental research), provided that there are good opportunities for collaboration with one or more of the department’s existing research groups.

Your research is characterized by a high degree of methodological innovation. A broad applicability of the innovative tools and methods you use, also beyond your own subdiscipline, is considered an asset.

  • Your contract will start on 1/01/2027 at the earliest.
