Sciensano is seeking an experienced Accounting Director to oversee all accounting activities and lead a team of about 10 staff. You will report to the Director of Finance and drive high-quality financial reporting across the organization.

You will ensure tax/VAT compliance, manage audits, and enhance accounting processes with a health-policy oriented organization. The role offers full-time employment in a renowned scientific institute with competitive benefits.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Economics, Business Studies or Business Engineering; orientation in accounting or financial management
• Professional experience in various areas of accounting
• Excellent command of accounting techniques (e.g. day-to-day and year-end procedures)
• At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial role leading a diverse and large team
• Affinity with scientific research and health policy
• Experience in the public sector (or similar) is an asset
• General competencies: good interpersonal and organisational skills; initiative and an eye for process improvement; analytical skills; inspirational leadership
• Language skills: a very good command of Dutch and French; a sound knowledge of English

You will be responsible for all of Sciensano’s accounting activities, including general and budgetary accounting, accounts receivable and accounts payable, as well as the management of fixed assets.

You will lead a team of around 10 staff members.

Your responsibilities will include, amongst other things:

• managing and monitoring the accounting processes;
• overseeing the operational tasks of the Accounting department, including control and risk management;
• ensuring the completion of financial statements in collaboration with the other units of the Finance department and the Sciensano departments; preparing the reports; ensuring high-quality reporting to management;
• preparing for audits; acting as the point of contact for auditors, clients, public authorities and others;
• ensuring compliance with tax and VAT obligations, managing insurance files, etc.;
• providing support and advice on the implementation of accounting procedures;
• ensuring the efficient organisation of the department’s operations (including the development of information management systems);

You will report to the Director of Finance.

Profile

Master’s degree in Economics, Business Studies or Businees Engineering, orientation in accounting or financial management

Professional experience: extensive experience in various areas of accounting

Excellent command of accounting techniques (e.g. day-to-day and year-end procedures)

At least 5 years’ experience in a managerial role leading a diverse and large team
