We're currently recruiting for a Legal Counsel for an international organisation, providing legal support across its global business activities. Working closely with experienced legal colleagues, management and a range of operational and corporate stakeholders, you will help support commercial growth, manage legal risks and ensure compliance across multiple jurisdictions.
This is a broad, commercially focused position covering contract negotiation, regulatory compliance, intellectual property, corporate governance and dispute management. You will advise on day-to-day legal matters, support commercial decision-making and work alongside the wider group legal function and external legal advisers on more complex issues.
The role offers an excellent opportunity for a legal professional looking to further develop their expertise in an international business environment, gaining exposure to a variety of legal matters while working closely with colleagues across different functions and countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide practical legal guidance on commercial activities, new business opportunities and operational matters, helping colleagues understand potential risks and available options.
- Review, draft and negotiate agreements with customers, suppliers, strategic partners and other third parties, ensuring contracts reflect business requirements and appropriately manage legal risks.
- Support contractual arrangements involving technology development, intellectual property rights, collaborative projects and the protection of proprietary knowledge.
- Assist the business in navigating cross-border legal requirements, including trade restrictions, sanctions, competition rules and relevant regulatory obligations.
- Help assess potential disputes, provide initial recommendations and coordinate with external legal advisers where additional expertise is required.
- Contribute to the development of standard contracts, internal guidance and processes to improve contract management and help colleagues identify legal issues at an early stage.
- Support corporate transactions, organisational changes and integration activities, providing legal input and helping maintain appropriate governance procedures.
- Work with colleagues across the organisation to improve awareness of contractual obligations, regulatory developments and legal responsibilities.
Job Requirements:
- A recognised qualification in Belgian law.
- Several years of relevant legal experience, gained in a corporate legal department, private practice or a combination of both.
- A solid understanding of commercial contracts, contract negotiation and general business law.
- Professional fluency in Dutch and English. French language skills would be beneficial.
- The ability to work effectively with international stakeholders and colleagues across different functions.
- A commercially minded approach, with the ability to identify potential legal risks and develop practical solutions that support business objectives.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain legal concepts clearly to non-legal colleagues.
- The ability to manage a varied workload, prioritise competing demands and take responsibility for assigned matters, while recognising when to seek guidance on more complex issues.
- A collaborative and approachable working style, combined with discretion and high professional standards.
- An interest in understanding the wider business, including its operational processes and technical activities.
The Offer:
- A competitive salary and benefits package commensurate with experience.
- The opportunity to develop your legal expertise within an international business environment.
- Exposure to a broad range of commercial and corporate legal matters, working alongside experienced colleagues.
