Description du poste

Flight Information Service Officer (FISO)

skeyes is the Belgian air navigation service provider (ANSP) and ensures the safe, smooth and sustainable management of Belgian airspace. Day and night, 365 days a year, skeyes guides thousands of flights over Belgium and coordinates air traffic in cooperation with European partners. As an indispensable link in the aviation industry, skeyes combines cutting-edge technology with highly skilled professionals to ensure the safety of every flight.

As a Flight Information Service Officer (FISO), you will play a key role within this organisation. At the request of a pilot, you will provide targeted information and assistance that contribute to the safe and efficient execution of a flight. In the uncontrolled airspace, where there is no active traffic control, you will be the point of contact that supports pilots and forms the bridge between ‘free flight’ and the controlled environment. Your work has a direct impact on the safety of the airspace above our country.

What does a Flight Information Service Officer do at skeyes?
  • You provide Flight Information Services in uncontrolled airspace: you record information received via the FIC frequency, verify potential risks on the route and ensure that pilots have all relevant data for safe operation.
  • You act as an information link between the uncontrolled and controlled airspace: you provide air traffic controllers in a timely manner with all relevant information about flights in your area of operation and, where necessary, carry out the necessary coordination so that they can safely handle air traffic that falls under their competence.
  • You activate Search & Rescue procedures in uncontrolled airspace when a pilot is in distress, and ensure that rescue services are initiated quickly and correctly.
  • You are responsible for Flight Data Support: you monitor the correct processing of flight plan data in the Flight Data Processing System used by the air traffic controllers, and intervene when data is missing or incorrect.

Advancing into the AMC: a plus in your role

After several years of experience as a FISO, you will have the opportunity to expand your tasks with a role within skeyes’ Airspace Management Cell (AMC). You will remain active as FISO, but in addition take on a broader responsibility in the day-to-day management and flexible layout of the Belgian airspace. The AMC allocates the available airspace as efficiently as possible between military and civilian users: a challenging and strategic add-on to your trusted FISO tasks.

If you take on this additional role as Civil Airspace Management Officer (CAMO), you will expand your expertise as follows:

  • You will adapt the airspace dynamically based on the current demand through the Flexible Use of Airspace (FUA) concept: military exercises, civil traffic and special operations are coordinated within a European framework that aims to maximise the use of airspace.
  • You will coordinate with military authorities, air traffic controllers and other parties involved to activate or deactivate the appropriate airspace structures in a timely manner.
  • You will process NOTAMs and other operational information that informs airspace users of temporary restrictions, hazardous areas or changes to airspace layout.
  • You will monitor the correct application of airspace reservations and act as a single point of contact for questions and requests from airspace users.
  • You will actively contribute to the daily planning and optimisation of airspace.
What makes you the ideal Flight Information Service Officer?
  • You preferably have a bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant work experience and prior knowledge.
  • You quickly absorb new knowledge and adapt easily in a dynamic, technical environment.
  • You have a basic knowledge of Belgian airspace and feel at home in an aviation context.
  • You have a very good knowledge of English, both orally and in writing, the working language in international aviation.
  • You pick up new software applications quickly and are familiar with the use of Microsoft Office applications.
  • You work accurately and in a structured way, even under time pressure.
  • You are stress resistant: you keep the overview and act decisively when it really matters.
  • You are a real team player with a strong sense of responsibility: your decisions have a direct impact on airspace safety.
  • You are flexible and willing to work in shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • You have a customer-oriented approach: you listen to the pilot’s needs and take the initiative to offer concrete, clear solutions.

In light of the vacancy to which you respond we would like to draw your special attention to the fact that prior to being employed by skeyes candidates have to undergo a security screening which will be carried out by the National Security Authority. More info
