Job summary

Umicore is seeking an Export Control & Sanctions Business Partner to serve as the primary interface between the business and the Global EC&S team. You will translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance while building knowledge of the assigned Business Groups, products, and markets.

Qualifications

• 5 years of experience in export controls, sanctions, or trade compliance.
• Strong understanding of export controls and sanctions.
• Experience in multinational environments or advisory roles.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance.
• Structured and analytical with sound judgement in risk situations.
• Clear communicator able to explain complex topics clearly.
• Collaborative and comfortable working in a global environment.
• Proactive and willing to take ownership.

• Identify and assess EC&S risks related to transactions, countries, business partners, products, and end-use.
• Review selected transactions and support decision making by recommending whether to proceed, mitigate, or escalation.
• Handle and document escalations in a structured way, in alignment with the Head of Global EC&S Compliance.
• Work closely with Regional Trade Compliance Managers on questions linked to local regulations and specific jurisdictions.
• Support the application of EC&S controls across key areas such as country restrictions, product classification, business partner screening, end-use checks, and export licensing.

Your Key Accountabilities

As Export Control & Sanctions Business Partner, you act as the primary interface between the business and the Global Export Control & Sanctions (EC&S) team. You develop a strong understanding of the Business Group(s) under your responsibility, including products, technologies, supply chains, business partners, and strategy, and translate this into practical EC&S guidance. Build and maintain a good understanding of the assigned Business Group(s), including products, flows, markets, and key stakeholders. You'll also:

• Act as first point of contact for EC&S topics, providing clear and pragmatic guidance to the business
• Identify and assess EC&S risks related to transactions, countries, business partners, products, and end-use
• Review selected transactions and support decision making by recommending whether to proceed, mitigate, or escalation
• Handle and document escalations in a structured way, in alignment with the Head of Global EC&S Compliance
• Work closely with Regional Trade Compliance Managers on questions linked to local regulations and specific jurisdictions
• Support the application of EC&S controls across key areas such as country restrictions, product classification, business partner screening, end-use checks, and export licensing
• Promote awareness within the business and support the adoption of a "stop and escape" mindset where needed
• Provide feedback to improve policies, procedures, and ways of working based on business experience
• Contribute to ongoing improvements of the Internal Compliance Program and participate in EC&S projects and initiatives
• Build effective working relationships with stakeholders across Business Units and functions

Who we are looking for

• 5 years of experience in export controls, sanctions, or trade compliance
• Good understanding of export control and sanctions
• Experience in a multinational environment or advisory role
• Master’s degree in Law, International Trade, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field
• Familiarity with trade compliance tools such as SAP GTS is a plusli>
• Experience in industrial or technical environments is an asset
• Fluent in English, additional languages are a plus
• Ability to understand business activities and translate regulatory requirements into practical guidance
• Structured and analytical, with sound judgement in risk situations
