Imec invites applications for a Bachelor internship to evaluate a BTO-based photonic switch using standard directional couplers. The intern will work on design and simulation to assess metrics like insertion loss, extinction ratio, and footprint in silicon photonics.
The program targets Electrotechnics/Electrical Engineering students and lasts 3 months, with an allowance provided for non-Belgian students. Supervising scientists are available for guidance.
/ Evaluation of a BTO-Based Photonic Switch Using Standard Directional Couplers
Assess the performance of a BTO-based directional coupler switch for future optical communication and computing platforms
Silicon photonics requires compact and energy-efficient optical switches for next-generation communication and computing systems. This internship will evaluate a photonic switch based on a standard directional coupler integrated with Barium Titanate (BTO), a material offering a strong electro-optic effect. Through device design and simulation, key performance metrics such as insertion loss, extinction ratio, switching efficiency, and footprint will be assessed to explore the potential of BTO-enabled switching for future silicon photonic integrated circuits.
Type of internship: Bachelor internship
Duration: 3 Months
Required educational background: Electrotechnics/Electrical Engineering
The reference code for this position is 2026-INT-211. Mention this reference code in your application.
Imec allowance will be provided for students studying at a non-Belgian university.
