Cloud Power Luxembourg is seeking a Database Architect for a long-term strategic project in Belgium. You will migrate a large-scale database from Sybase ASE to PostgreSQL, ensure data integrity, and optimize performance.

The role requires senior expertise in PostgreSQL, Linux scripting, and experience with complex migrations. The project focuses on the Clinical Workstation used by 130,000+ healthcare professionals across Belgium. Hybrid onsite work in Leuven 1 day/week is possible.

• Translate Sybase T-SQL patterns to PostgreSQL and optimize queries.
• Implement indexing, partitioning and tuning for migration efficiency.

• Support migration strategy and act as PostgreSQL SME for the team.
• Develop automation for database administration and monitoring.
• Provide support for the existing Sybase environment during migration.

For a long-term strategic project, we are looking for an experienced Database Architect to play a key role in a business-critical database migration program.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the modernization of one of Belgium's most important healthcare platforms.

Start: ASAP

Location: 1 day/week onsite in Leuven - remaining days from your preferred office (Hasselt, Ghent, or Antwerp)

Note: Occasional participation in on-call support or after-hours maintenance may be required.

About the Project

You will join a strategic modernization program focused on migrating a large-scale database infrastructure from Sybase ASE to PostgreSQL.

Our client develops and maintains the Clinical Workstation (KWS), the electronic patient record platform used daily by more than 130,000 healthcare professionals across Belgium. You'll work on a multi-terabyte database environment that forms a critical part of Belgium's digital healthcare infrastructure.

• Design the target PostgreSQL architecture with a focus on performance, scalability, and reliability.
• Translate and redesign complex Sybase T-SQL patterns into PostgreSQL.
• Optimize database performance through indexing, query tuning, partitioning, and other best practices.
• Develop data validation and quality controls to ensure data integrity throughout the migration.
• Support the migration and transition strategy.
• Act as the PostgreSQL Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the project team.
• Build automation for database administration, monitoring, and operational management.
• Provide support for the existing Sybase environment during the migration phase.
• Extensive experience as a Senior Database Architect or Senior DBA.
• Strong expertise in PostgreSQL architecture, administration, tuning, and optimization.
• Proven experience with large-scale database migration projects and legacy environments.
• Experience converting SQL dialects from Sybase to PostgreSQL.
• Strong performance tuning and query optimization skills.
• Good knowledge of Linux/Unix and scripting (Shell, automation, tuning).
• Experience with database administration and automation.
• Experience with PostgreSQL extensions (e.g. pg_logical, pg_vector) is a plus.
• Java environment experience is considered an asset.
• Experience with Sybase ASE is beneficial but not mandatory—a willingness to learn is equally valued.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
