SquareDev in Brussels seeks an experienced Data Engineer to design, implement, and operate data pipelines across structured and unstructured sources, enabling reporting and AI-driven use cases. You will work on core platform components with a focus on data engineering, analytics, and cloud-based technologies.

The role involves building scalable data products, ensuring data quality, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enable explainability and governance in AI workflows.

Qualifications

• Experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines for data lake/warehouse architectures.
• End-to-end integration of structured and unstructured data (documents, PDFs, text).
• Analytics development, data modelling, and exposure to AI/ML on text data.
• Knowledge of DevOps practices, Git, CI/CD, and pipeline automation in multi-stakeholder environments.
• Strong English communication skills.

• Build and maintain data pipelines ingesting heterogeneous sources, batch and near-real-time.
• Perform data cleansing, validation, standardization, and metadata tagging.
• Contribute to Data/Product Catalogue and implement data quality checks.
• Design solutions combining structured and unstructured data into reusable data products.
• Support AI-enabled processing of document data with explainability and traceability.
• Automate pipelines and reporting workflows, implement event-driven processing and monitoring.

Role Overview

We are looking for an Engineer to join one of our EU public sector clients based in Brussels. You'll will contribute to the design, development, and deployment of core platform components, focusing on data engineering, analytics and AI-enabled capabilities. The role requires a strong ability to work across structured and unstructured data, enabling reporting and advanced analytical and AI use cases.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

• Building and maintaining data pipelines integrating heterogeneous structured and unstructured sources, including batch and near-real-time ingestion
• Performing data cleansing, validation, standardization, metadata tagging, and supporting data lineage across data flows
• Contributing to the Data and Product Catalogue and implementing data quality checks and monitoring
• Designing solutions that combine structured data (databases, tabular datasets) with unstructured data (documents, reports, text) into reusable data products
• Supporting AI-driven processing of document-centric data and contributing to AI-enabled use cases with explainability, traceability, and human-in-the-loop controls
• Automating pipelines and reporting workflows, and implementing event-driven processing, alerts, and monitoring
• Implementing security controls (IAM, encryption at rest/in transit, audit logging) and supporting separation of classified/unclassified and secure or air-gapped environments
• Building modular, scalable platform components using open standards/APIs, and supporting integration with existing EDA systems

To excel in this role, you'll need:

• Proven experience designing ETL/ELT pipelines and working with data lake/warehouse architectures (Microsoft Fabric, Azure ecosystem, or open-source platforms)
• Demonstrated experience integrating structured data (databases, tabular) with unstructured data (documents, PDFs, text corpora) end-to-end
• Experience in analytics development, data modelling, and exposure to AI/ML on text/document-based data, with understanding of explainability and traceability
• Knowledge of DevOps, Git, CI/CD, and pipeline automation; ability to work in multi-stakeholder environments
• Strong English communication skills.
