MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company is seeking a Critical and Dangerous Cargo (CDC) Supervisor to ensure safe and compliant movement of dangerous goods across MSC’s global network. The role reports to the CDC Manager and acts as a subject matter expert for IMDG Code compliance and regulatory requirements.

You will supervise bookings, verify documentation, provide technical guidance, and support vessel planning, while coordinating with MSC Geneva and authorities to drive safety and operational

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Chemistry, or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Experience in dangerous goods transportation, maritime operations, shipping, logistics, or regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of the IMDG Code and dangerous goods regulations.

As Critical and Dangerous Cargo (CDC) Supervisor you report to the Critical and Dangerous Cargo Manager.

The Critical and Dangerous Cargo Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, and efficient transportation of dangerous goods and other high-risk cargo throughout MSC’s global network. The role ensures that cargo is transported in accordance with applicable international regulations, MSC policies, and operational procedures. Acting as a subject matter expert, the supervisor supports agencies, vessel operations, and internal stakeholders while ensuring compliance with the IMDG Code, and other relevant regulatory requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise the review, assessment, and approval of dangerous goods bookings in MSC Critical and Dangerous
• Cargo system, ensuring full compliance with the IMDG Code and MSC requirements.
• Verify the accuracy and completeness of dangerous goods documentation, declarations, packaging, marking, placarding, labelling, and segregation arrangements prior to shipment acceptance.
• Provide technical guidance and cargo acceptance support to MSC agencies, commercial teams, and operational stakeholders worldwide.
• Oversee dangerous goods vessel planning activities, ensuring safe stowage, segregation, and regulatory compliance throughout the voyage.
• Ensuring the vessel’s document of compliance are reviewed and updated accordingly.
• Manage the review and authorization of hazardous waste shipments in accordance with the Basel Convention and applicable national and international regulations.
• Coordinate the assessment and approval of critical cargo in cooperation with MSC Geneva and relevant authorities.
• Investigate mis-declared, undeclared, or non-compliant cargo and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Monitor regulatory developments and ensure the timely implementation of changes to dangerous goods regulations, company procedures, and operational standards.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable legal requirements, MSC policies, and internal procedures relating to dangerous goods and critical cargo transportation.
• Serve as a subject matter expert on dangerous goods, hazardous waste, and critical cargo, providing technical advice, risk assessments, and operational support.
• Maintain effective relationships with regulatory authorities, industry organizations, terminals, vessels, agencies, and internal stakeholders to address compliance and safety matters.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives, training programs, and safety projects aimed at enhancing cargo compliance, operational efficiency, and risk management across MSC’s global network.
• Contribute to the development and maintenance of dangerous goods procedures, guidance documents, and best practices to promote a strong cargo safety culture throughout the organization.
• Advise MSC HQ Upper Management on matters relating to the safe and compliant transport of critical and dangerous cargo.
• Develop, maintain, and optimize screening parameters to detect undeclared or misdeclared critical and dangerous cargo during the booking process.

WHO ARE YOU?

Education & Experience

• Master’s degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Chemistry, or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience.
• Demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas: dangerous goods transportation, maritime operations, shipping, logistics, supply chain management, or regulatory compliance.
• Strong knowledge of the IMDG Code and dangerous goods regulations, gained through education, training, or practical operational experience.
• Experience in dangerous cargo operations, cargo acceptance, vessel planning, compliance activities, or related maritime and logistics functions is considered an advantage.
• Strong knowledge of dangerous goods regulations, maritime transport requirements, and cargo safety principles.
• Sound analytical and decision-making skills, with the ability to assess operational risks and identify practical solutions.
• High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams, cultures, and regions.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize competing demands, and perform effectively in a fast-paced operational environment.
• Proven capability to lead operational activities, drive compliance initiatives, and support continuous improvement efforts.
• Demonstrates resilience and sound decision-making in high-pressure, time-critical situations.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English; additional language skills are considered an advantage.
