Job summary

Michael Page International (Belgium) is seeking a seasoned Accountant to manage day-to-day accounting for multiple entities in Brussels. The role focuses on closings, reconciliations, and ensuring accuracy of records within Belgian standards.

You will monitor AP/AR, prepare VAT declarations, and support statutory accounts and audits, coordinating with external auditors and tax advisors. Fluency in French and English is required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting with exposure to internal control, audit or compliance.
• Experience from construction, real estate or architect companies (must have).
• French and English.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities for one or several entities.
• Prepare and review monthly, quarterly and annual closings.
• Perform balance sheet reconciliations and ensure the accuracy of accounting records.
• Monitor accounts payable, accounts receivable and general ledger postings.
• Prepare VAT declarations and support other tax compliance obligations.
• Assist in the preparation of statutory accounts and audit files.
• Coordinate with external auditors, accountants and tax advisors.
• Ensure compliance with Belgian accounting standards and company policies.
• Assess and document existing financial and operational processes.
• Identify control weaknesses and propose pragmatic improvement actions.
• Ensure proper segregation of duties and compliance with internal procedures.
• Review approval workflows, authorizations and financial governance processes.
• Support the implementation and monitoring of internal control frameworks.
• Perform periodic control testing and follow-up on remediation actions.
• Participate in risk assessments and recommend mitigating measures.
• Support finance leadership in strengthening audit readiness and compliance.
