Description du poste

Be part of a movement to change the way Europe pays

In today’s digital Europe, payments still feel too complicated. Random delays, confusing rules, extra apps and accounts make it harder than it should be to pay and get paid.

The European Payments Initiative is changing that with Wero, a proudly European digital wallet to make payments easier, clearer and more secure. Online, in store, at home and across borders, with your money and data protected under European laws and regulations.

Wero is live in Belgium, France, Germany and the Netherlands and launching very soon in Luxembourg and Austria. Backed by 16 major banks and the two largest European acquirers, we’re building a brand new, proudly European payment system.

What's in it for you

Want to play a direct role in shaping the future of merchant payments in the Netherlands and across the BENELUX region? At EPI, you'll drive the adoption of Wero with leading merchants and strategic acceptance partners.

At EPI, we embrace a remote-first culture, enabling our teams to work remotely from the country they are based in, with in-person meetings at least once a quarter to foster collaboration and connection.

About the team

You’ll report to the Director Market Acceptance BENELUX and work closely with colleagues across Acceptance, Marketing, Product, Scheme, Pricing and Membership teams. The environment is remote-first, highly cross-functional and international, with regular touchpoints and in-person gatherings to drive collaboration and achieve key milestones.

Your impact
  • Develop and drive merchant acceptance by identifying, engaging and activating priority Dutch-speaking merchants to adopt and prioritize Wero.

  • Expand Wero’s reach by supporting the development of new acceptance verticals such as public transport, mobility, services and point-of-sale environments.

  • Lead merchant onboarding and activation journeys, ensuring a smooth path to successful Wero implementation.

  • Act as the operational bridge between merchants, acquirers and EPI teams to resolve challenges and accelerate adoption.

  • Represent Wero within the Dutch and European payments ecosystem through industry events, associations and strategic partnerships.

  • Translate merchant feedback and market insights into actionable recommendations for Product, Scheme, Pricing and Membership teams.

  • Maintain a strong pipeline and provide structured reporting to support strategic decision-making and market expansion.

Technology stack
  • Atlassian Suite (Jira, Confluence)

  • HubSpot CRM

  • Microsoft Office Suite

  • Reporting and pipeline management tools

To succeed, you should meet at least 70% of these requirements
  • 6+ years of professional experience in Payments, Business Development, Merchant Acceptance or a related field.

  • A degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing or a related field is preferred.

  • Fluent in both Dutch and English (written and spoken); French or other European languages are a plus.

  • Thrive in a remote-first, multicultural environment.

  • Strong knowledge of the Dutch payments ecosystem and merchant acceptance landscape.

  • Proven experience in payment business development, payment strategy or merchant acquisition activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive merchants or partners through onboarding, activation and go-live processes.

  • Experience working with acquirers, large merchants or public acceptance organizations.

  • Exposure to product lifecycle management, payment integrations or merchant implementation projects.

If this looks like you, the recruitment steps are:
  • A first call with one of our recruiters.

  • A technical interview focused on the role and your merchant acceptance expertise.

  • A meeting with the team.

  • A final interview with our Chief of Acceptance.

  • Hopefully, an offer you can’t refuse.

Turn back if …
  • You’re looking for a purely operational account management role with limited strategic influence.

  • You prefer working in well-established markets rather than helping drive the adoption of a new payment solution.

  • You are not comfortable building relationships across a broad ecosystem of merchants, partners and internal stakeholders.

What we can offer
  • Remote-first culture with quarterly and annual all-staff in-person meetups to keep teams connected and collaborative.

  • Possibility to work from another EU country for up to 3 months per year.

  • Competitive compensation package, featuring salary, performance-based bonus, and a thoughtfully designed, high-quality benefits program.

  • The opportunity to be part of a multicultural European company.

  • Learning & development budget: €5,000 training budget per year.
