Job summary

Pauwels Consulting is seeking a BI Data Engineer to join the public sector BI team in Brussels. The role focuses on designing, developing, and maintaining a high-performance data platform to enable reporting and data-driven decisions.

You will design and maintain ETL/ELT, build data warehouses and datamarts with Kimball, and deploy data solutions across on-prem and cloud environments. Familiarity with Dutch or French is preferred.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in BI, data engineering or data warehousing.
• Expertise in SQL Server, T‑SQL and SSIS.
• Strong knowledge of Kimball dimensional modeling (star/snowflake).
• Experience with Azure Data Services and Microsoft Fabric.
• Proven ETL/ELT development background and data lake familiarity.
• Bachelors or Masters in CS or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain ETL/ELT processes across sources.

Our client, a prominent organization in the public sector, is looking for a BI Data Engineer to join their Business Intelligence team. This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining a high-performance data platform to support reporting and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

• Design and maintain complex ETL and ELT processes to integrate data from various internal and external sources.
• Develop and optimize data warehouses and datamarts using dimensional modeling techniques such as Kimball.
• Implement data solutions across both on-premises and cloud environments to support platform modernization.
• Monitor and ensure the performance, stability, and scalability of the business intelligence platform.
• Provide technical support and expertise to other developers regarding complex data integration and performance issues.
• Draft and maintain technical documentation to ensure the continuity and quality of the data architecture.

• You bring 5+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, data engineering, or data warehousing.
• You possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, and SSIS.
• You have extensive knowledge of Kimball methodology and dimensional modeling including star and snowflake schemas.
• You have experience implementing data solutions with Microsoft Azure Data Services and Microsoft Fabric.
• You possess a strong background in developing ETL and ELT processes.
• You have familiarity with Data Lake solutions and modern data architectures.
• You possess a Bachelor or Master degree in Computer Science or equivalent through experience.
• You're proactive, solution-oriented, and have strong analytical skills.
• You are a native speaker of Dutch or French with a good understanding of the second language.

Nice to Haves

• Experience with Azure Data Factory and Power BI.
• Knowledge of Spark and Python.
• Proficiency with Git and Azure DevOps.
• Understanding of Data Vault modeling.

• Start date: December 1, 2026
• Duration: 7 months plus extension
• Work regime: Full-time
