Optimile, a leading software company powering Europe’s EV charging ecosystem, seeks an experienced Backend Developer for a hybrid role in Ghent, Belgium. You will own end-to-end backend solutions, write clean Python code, and collaborate with cross-functional squads to deliver scalable, robust software.

You will work with RabbitMQ and PostgreSQL, participate in design discussions, and mentor peers while maintaining high engineering standards. Fluency in English is required; Dutch is a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree or equivalent experience.
• Proficient in English; Dutch is a bonus.
• Strong Python and Django experience.
• Experience building distributed systems with messaging.
• Relational database experience (PostgreSQL).

Your role

As a Backend Developer, you are a key technical contributor within your squad. You take ownership of your work from understanding a problem to delivering production-ready solutions that are thoroughly tested, maintainable and well documented.

You actively contribute to technical discussions, challenge assumptions where needed and help shape solutions that remain robust as our platform continues to grow.

Beyond your own work, you help raise the engineering bar. Through thoughtful code reviews, pairing and knowledge sharing, you support the growth of your teammates and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement.

You'll work closely with your Tech Lead, Product Owner and fellow engineers in a cross-functional squad where collaboration, ownership and quality are at the heart of everything we build.

• Work closely with the Product Owner to translate product requirements into sustainable technical solutions.

What We Are Looking For

Must-have

• You live and work in Belgium
• Bachelor's or Master's degree, or equivalent experience
• Professional proficiency in English, Dutch is a bonus
• Strong experience with Python and Django
• Experience building distributed systems, including asynchronous messaging (RabbitMQ/AMQP), failure handling and idempotency
• Solid experience with relational databases, particularly PostgreSQL, including schema design, migrations and query optimization
• A strong interest in building scalable backend systems
• A proactive mindset with a passion for solving technical challenges and continuous learning

Nice to have

• Experience with HTML, CSS and JavaScript/ TypeScript
• Experience working in modern Agile product teams
• Experience with cloud-native or event-driven architectures
