Job summary

Altia is seeking a Back-end Software Engineer to design, develop and maintain scalable back-end services and APIs. You will work on data storage solutions, authentication, and CI/CD integration within a large-scale platform.

The role requires deep Java expertise (Spring/Spring Boot), strong experience with REST, JPA/Hibernate, and extensive Big Data knowledge (Hadoop, Cassandra, Redis) plus Kafka and microservices. Cloud basics and security focus are essential for success.

Qualifications

• Master's degree or equivalent EQF Level 7.
• 15+ years of professional IT experience.
• English B2 or higher, written and spoken.
• 10+ years in Java application design and development.
• 10+ years with MariaDB and MySQL.
• 10+ years with JPA/Hibernate.
• 10+ years with RESTful API development.
• 5+ years with Big Data technologies (Hadoop, Cassandra, Redis).
• Strong Spring/Spring Boot production knowledge.
• Experience with Kafka and Microservices.
• Parquet data processing expertise.
• Proven scalable architectures for large data pipelines.
• Knowledge of Cloud back-end basics and Kubernetes.
• Security, CI/CD, testing and monitoring expertise.

The project

Join an international project supporting.

You will design, develop and maintain scalable back-end services and business logic, developing APIs and data-storage solutions while integrating front-end elements with server-side logic. The role involves implementing authentication, secure coding, logging and monitoring, as well as performing unit/integration testing and CI/CD integration to troubleshoot and optimise performance for this high-impact platform.

Requirements

• University degree equivalent to EQF Level 7 (Master's degree or equivalent to five years of higher education).
• Minimum 15 years of professional IT experience.
• English B2 or higher, both written and spoken.
• 10+ years of experience in Java application design and development, including I/O, concurrency, localisation and modern Java features.
• 10+ years of combined experience with MariaDB and MySQL.
• 10+ years of experience with JPA/Hibernate.
• 10+ years of experience with RESTful API development and service integration.
• 5+ years of experience with Big Data technologies, including Hadoop, Cassandra and Redis.
• Strong knowledge of production-grade Spring and Spring Boot development.
• Experience with Kafka messaging middleware and Microservices architecture.
• Expertise in processing Big Data in Parquet format.
• Proven experience in scalable architectures for large media-data processing, analytics, data pipelines and interactive dashboards/visualisation.
• Knowledge of Cloud back-end basics (serverless functions, storage accounts and managed Kubernetes).
• Solid understanding of security, CI/CD, testing and monitoring.
