Job summary

Datashift is seeking an AWS Data Platform Engineer to build and evolve a robust data platform on AWS. You will own infrastructure, CI/CD, monitoring, security, and scalability, enabling teams to deliver reliable data products.

Collaborate with Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Business Consultants to translate requirements into production-grade solutions, while coaching junior engineers and shaping the platform strategy. You will work across Mechelen, Leuven and Gent offices.

Qualifications

• At least 4 years of experience in data/platform engineering or equivalent roles.
• Hands-on experience implementing data solutions on AWS.
• Experience building/infrastructure with Terraform or AWS CloudFormation.
• Hands-on with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes).
• Experience with networking, security, and access control in AWS.
• Experience deploying and maintaining deployment pipelines with Git (GitHub/GitLab or similar).
• Proficient in writing clean, well-structured Python code.
• Contributed to production-grade deployments.

Responsibilities

• Build, manage, and continuously improve containerized data platforms with Kubernetes at core and AWS infrastructure behind.
• Shape infrastructure to be industrializable and future-proof while considering cost, performance, and maintenance.
• Collaborate with Data Architects to evolve platform components and data infrastructure.
• Balance cost, performance, and maintainability in new designs and improvements.
• Stay up to date with data technology developments and share knowledge with colleagues.
• Coach junior and mid-level data engineers.

Job description

As an AWS Data Platform Engineer, you will do much more than build data pipelines. You will help shape and evolve the AWS platform that powers data solutions, taking ownership from infrastructure and CI/CD to monitoring, security, and scalability.

Acting as a Platform Engineer will be a key part of your role, enabling teams to build and operate data products with confidence. Together with Data Scientists, Analytics Engineers, and Business Consultants, you will turn business requirements into robust, production-grade solutions that deliver real value to our clients.

Your responsibilities

• You build, manage, and continuously improve containerized data platforms, with Kubernetes at their core and AWS providing the underlying cloud infrastructure
• You actively contribute to shaping tomorrow's infrastructure and ensuring its setup can be industrialized in a future-proof and scalable way
• You act as a sparring partner to the Data Architect, helping shape the technical direction for building future-proof infrastructure components and continuously evolving the platform in line with industry best practices.
• Balance cost, performance, and maintainability when designing new or improving on existing solutions
• Stay up to date with developments in data technology and share your knowledge with your colleagues
• Coach junior and medior data engineers

Job requirements

Must have

• You have at least 4 years of experience
• Hands-on experience with implementing data solutions in AWS
• You can build and maintain infrastructure using Terraform or AWS CloudFormation
• Hands-on experience with containerization (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes)
• Hands-on experience with networking, security, and access control in AWS
• You can set up and maintain deployment automation pipelines and have day-to-day experience with Git (using GitHub, GitLab, or similar)
• You get energy from writing and maintaining clean, well-structured Python code
• You have contributed to production-grade deployments

Nice to have

• Hands-on experience with data modeling (Kimball, Data Vault)
• Strong analytical SQL skills
• Knowledge of data warehousing best practices
• Hands-on experience with dbt

Languages

• Fluent in Dutch and English
